New Monopod Advice

Hi,

I'm after a new Monopod, for wildlife photography and to support my Canon 300mm 2.8. Any suggestions would be great.

I did have a Benro MAD49A Monopod which was fine apart from the 1/4 screw part on the monopod sometimes getting stuck in the foot of my 300 2.8!

I'm wondering if that's a design flaw with the monopod or if I am over tightening it.

There just might be an anomaly in one of the threads, either the male or female, which could be seen by close visual inspection. Examples might be thread damage, or just something in the mating geometry that binds when fully home.

Worth close scrutiny, at least.

Have a look at the Benro Mach 3 carbon fibre monopod with the Benro BO Ball head- I have one ( won them in a local competition) I use these with my 200-600mm a cracking combo for wildlife

To buy new around £150 ish

I use a Gitzo 5562 monopod, with a Lensmaster gimbal. - Good Second hand around £150.00

Solid as a rock and when you do (inevitably) upgrade to a longer lens, you will still be fine!

I've had a couple of Sirui ones. They are excellent and I like the build better than my Gitzo tripods.

Stick the camera on your Tripod, extend 1 (one) leg and instant Monopod!!!

Hi I have 2 gitzos and yes I have a sony with 2.8 300mm and bigger lenses and over the last 4 years they have been faultless

Manfrotto 290, I use one myself with a similar lens, brilliant IMVHO.
