Yes
OK, the new computer is up and running, I'm an old stick in the mud, I dont much like the way W-7 looks, I prefer the workings and apearance of XP . . . I supose I will get used to it, remember saying something similar about W2000?

So what about recomentation of a monitor? I'm not sure if my curent monitor HPw2216 is falty or if I'm picking up interferance, need to dig out an old monitor from the loft?

So I'm looking to go up to 23"-24"? internet dont seem to be informative on good or bad for 'still D photography', no interst in video, games etc? I like the curent HP because it has a colour setup program . . . but it dont work in W-7, another reason to change?

Budget . . . up to £200'ish?

Anyone know if the new HPs have the colour setup program, the w2216 was the only one when I bought it.

The Dell ultrasharp U2410 and the LG IPS231 are both great, accurate IPS panel screens. The Dell costs more but has better construction, maneuverability and picture quality, the LG is great for the price.

Thanks HBeevers, I was looking at the Dell range . . . I will dig on line.

I have a dell u2410 at work and at home and am more than happy with it. Think I paid £330 for the last one but you get what you pay for they come with a test report from the factory confirming they meet the stated spec. They do do a slightly cheaper panel u2412 I found a back to back review and said it wasn't as good but wether you could visually tell the difference is subjective. I went for the 2410 because I already had one a knew it would be food for what I wanted.

Having gone round and a round and . . . . !!! looking at monitor reviews, most dealing with video/reply quality!!! However I was able to pick out the bones. It would apear the Dell Ultrasharp 2412 and 2410 have it. As I'm puerly in to photography for my own pleasure, I'm leaning towards the 2412 on cost . . . ? I did start to get interested in the 24" version of the HP monitor that I curently have, however, user reports were les than encouraging on reliabuility and customer service.

So, a few more hours procrastination, over model 10 or 12? Can I justify the extra £100 . . . :naughty:

Well you're not that much of a stick in the mud - I also hate it especially since I rely on the Quick Launch bar a lot.

Mind you I hated some of the looks of XP at first especially the stupid "modern" icons - so much so that I still use many of the ME icons - much easier on the eye and to identify.

And XP can be thinned down to be much more responsive and very low on space - I run 4 copies of XP on this computer all on the main system disk with each partition using no more than 10Gig of space.

And I can do a complete clean install in less then 13 mins with all drivers installed and the desktop almost exactly as I want it.

Try that with W7!

Hi Peter . . . I supose I will get used to it?? eventualy, and guess what, there will be a new OS W#**? :bang: Hapens every time, I liked the 'QL Bar' to.

But there you go, MS leading us by the nose . . . again!!!! Suport for XP is dieing so I'm told, 64 bit is the new thing? or I would have had XP instaled on this one

At least I only need it for my own pleasure; emails, photos, a bit of surfing, music . . . its not life and death.

Cheap Dell 2412 . . . as I thought, 'Puremac-uk' seems to be a German based company . . . which rings alarm bells for me, something wrong with item, perhaps I'm being finicky . . . I like to deal with 'established, reachable' UK traders, with a UK address that is easily found when we are talking big bucks. Rings the grey import bells for me?
