I currently edit all of my photos on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite 855-1J2) through initially Lightroom 5. I have just upgraded to ful lightroom & photoshop CC and want a better screen to edit my photos on. My ideas are either purchasing a monitor to plug into my laptop or using a large HD TV. Can anyone offer any pros/cons for either way or offer an alternative. My budget is flexible but preferably not over a few hundred £s.

thanks very much

Ben

Don't use a TV. They're calibrated to different gamma levels for TV. They're too big, and too low resolution. A big TV is still only 1920x1080, so unless you sit on the other side of the room like you do when watching TV, you;ll just get annoyed at pixel size. Basically... they're not made for the job of photo editing. They also have too many auto contrast, dynamic adjustments, sharpening etc that are great when watching TV but a pain in the ass when editing.... and if you turn all that crap off, then it may spoil your TV enjoyment.

Buy a decent monitor.

I use a 40" Samsung HD TV and even sitting close, about 1 foot away, I can see the pixels if I concentrate on them, but they don't bother me.

Also the adjustments are seperate for each area, monitor, TV, etc and do not carry over so I can set the TV totally seperate from monitor use.

And one good thing about using it for photo editing is the extra large screen can show up problems not showing up on a smaller screen.

But it's each to his own.
.

Cheers gents
