New modern car advancements ,likes and dislikes.

LOL So if everyone does it then it should come off the list :P

Not really a problem, just commenting that they come on in brighter conditions than I would expect. Also, my headlamps swivel and follow the direction of the steering... But I don't find that much benefit either! Ha ha! Think that was seen on cars in the early sixties... The Citroën Pallas? Probably a marginal benefit on country roads.

Citroen DS, 1955. Not sure exactly when they put the steering headlights in it though!

Except it's legal to drive at night with just sidelights on if driving on roads that have street lighting ;)

It might be legal but that doesn't mean it's sensible!

I know, I was just making the point they aren't going to legislate to prevent the dash lights coming on with the side lights when in the view of parliament it's ok to drive at night with just side lights on.

I see quite a lot of cars these days driving at night with just the front drl on. I'm guessing they are so bright and the dash lights are on that the drivers think their main lights are on.

Exactly my point!

It could be from the days of people driving with their fog lights on. You would flash them, and point vigorously at the fog lights.

I never really got the point of the whole fog light thing, if you want to be racing about in your possibly undeclared modified car then surely you don't want to draw attention to yourself? But even more importantly, fog light bulbs tend to be a right pain to change!

I do not like the way all the lights come on, on our Galaxy. Popping down to the car the other night, as I had left something inside. I simply opened the door and all the electrics come alive, and the parking lights came on. All the interior lights came on. Even the Touch Screen panel, and instrument panel dials light up. Very hard to be discreet :).

Good for the cameras though ;) (at your favourite dogging spot :P).

I do not need to go hunting too far for that, to be honest. One day last week, while walking the dog, in our local park. The dog ran into some bushes wagging her tail, and out came two women fixing their clothes. They walked off hand in hand, obviously annoyed at being disturbed.

True story that :).

I often used to drive out in the sticks to the edge of my County and quite often found myself stopping for a quick wee at the same loos in a truckers lay-by. I did that for a few years until I found out the spot was a regular spot for the old vice squad looking for gents frequenting the loos! Must have seen me call in scores of times!

Trying to make sense of the navigation system, on our Galaxy. Small paragraph in owners manual that just says, the navigation SD card must be in the SD memory slot to operate the navigation system. If you need a replacement SD card, contact an authorised dealer. So I obviously have to go and buy the data from ford, I assume it will be pricey :(.

My guess is they should have supplied you with one.

Will have to do a little digging, and find out from the dealer. Chances are, it was just something else, they forgot to give us :(.

Depends - read the spec on Fords web site for your car model and see if it says Sat Nav prepared or has Sat Nav. We found this out when we went to look at my wife's new car, I presumed as the spec on their web site said Sat Nav prepared on the sport model - only when asking the sales chap (who was very helpful) he explained it's all ready to go (has the aerial, GPS etc installed), but you just have to buy the actual SD card with the Nav on...

What is the spec of your Galaxy - Zetec, Titanium etc ?

If they did forget to give it to you, there should be NO problem at all as it won't be car specific, so they should hold them / have it sat there

EDIT: Just had a very quick look on the front page of Ford's Galaxy page and if you have Titanium upwards, it comes with full european sat nav...

Additional to Zetec:
  • Ford DAB Navigation System with full European mapping data
  • Privacy Glass – dark glass to rear windows
  • LED Daytime running lights
  • Automatic front headlights
  • Rain sensing front windscreen wipers
  • Keyless Entry
  • Lane Keeping Aid
  • Traffic Sign Recognition
  • Cruise Control with Active Speed Limiter
  • Chrome trim to lower side windows
  • Chrome Roof Rails
  • Automatic dimming rear view mirror

If it is only an SD card to activate it, sometimes genuine sellers on Ebay have them well below the main dealer cost. Be careful to buy the right one and a trusted seller.

Just had a look, they are going for various prices. Will see if the missus wants to bother, if she does, I will get one.

For me, it would have to be the old bluetooth! The amount of calls I make in the car is unbelievable!

The start/stop thing is one of the reasons I haven't changed mine for a newer Sportbrake version. I know the system is supposed to save a little fuel but it relies on the driver keeping his/her foot on the footbrake which causes dazzle to the driver behind. I know it's switchable offable for each drive but I would want it to be disabled full time (or wired to the handbrake instead).

I quite like the auto wipers, even if they are a little reluctant for the first wipe. A quick blip of the stalk to get them started keeps them on their toes for the drive. Similarly the auto headlights on, although they're more likely to come on at what I consider the right time/light level. I think I've used the heated seats 4 times in the 3 years I've had them, although Mrs Nod's used hers more often. I suppose I wear thicker trousers!

Really? Neither of my cars require this. Both will power down the engine if the car is out of gear and at a standstill, regardless if the brake is being applied. That being said, you should have your handbrake on if stopped in that kind of scenario anyway.

Think this might be an auto @Nod is on about.

Was the same with an auto X3 I had on service loan - had to have foot brake applied otherwise engine fired again.

They are autos. And I do use the handbrake when I come to a stop for more than a second or 2.

Been out in our car today, longish drive and it was pleasant. Electronic parking brake, still not a natural feeling. If I am not concentrating, I still grasp for the non existent handbrake :).

Give it time and it will soon become the other way. I keep on forgetting to put the handbrake on my old audi. And likewise had to practise my handbrake Hill starts in my hire car. Just a little bunny hop today :)

Still finding its little quirks, been having fun with the voice command. The computer asks me, please say a command. Pretty hit and miss, it can't always understand me. Probably down to my northern accent. it would be interesting to have a hologram voice command prompt, I would call it holly :)

It's quite odd how quickly I adapt between mine (switch in central binnacle), Mrs Nod's (right hand side of the seat) and the s***box (central). Add to that the 3 different selector systems for the auto boxes! Never have any problems adapting to a left hooker manual when we go on holiday - or driving on the right.

I think for me it was a case of not being used to such a low powered vehicle as well. I floor it and my family are still doing the flintstone family movements :) no torque in this little mazda 3 1.6. #firstworldproblems

WE have the new Nissan Xtrail Tenka version and the gadgets and information is like a plane cockpit. Without going into everything, it would take all day to post on here, I have neverr seen a car which even displays the car and colour in a small relvolving picture when starting up, let alone all the colours available. What with 5 cameras on it to project an overhead view, don't ask me how its done , let alone reversing cameras and self parking , there really is too much to take in. For anyone gadget minded this must be the ideal play toy

It's comes with its own drone following you everywhere :)

LOL seriously if it is like 360 degree system in or mercedes it has the wide angle camera underneath the wingmirrors. Then in software it just overlays the image looking like it comes from above. Pretty neat and handy with larger vehicles to get close to the curb or stay away from trees when taking off road.

There are about six buttons over head in our car, near the interior light. Still have to study what each one is for, mainly for a combination of interior light configuration I think.

Try a 1.2 Clio!!! With a change delay slower than my Granny after her stroke... Fine when you know its little foibles but verging on the dangerous when you forget to hand select the correct gear as you approach a roundabout. TBH, I'm not sure what engine the usual hire car in Crete has - I know it's a Citroen C3 petrol but unsure of much beyond that! No Flintstoning, just lots of shouts of "Stupid f*****g thing!" when we get it wrong!

I'm the same when I drive my wife's Yaris which doesn't even have a litre of engine cubic capacity. Worse still is that it has zero safety features, no abs, no traction control nothing! A far cry from the 330 Xdrive.

I have no trouble adapting to any form of handbrake as I only apply it when parked, rest of the time it's clutch on bite point or foot on brake depending on how long before I expect to have to move off.

Our car is an Automatic, it always wants to drive. It is so much better holding car ready, with biting point. Especially at busy roundabouts, when biting point holding is so much better, you are away more quickly.
