New modern car advancements ,likes and dislikes.

If you want a list of what your Galaxy has fitted, enter your registration in here https://www.etis.ford.com/vehicleRe...id=5304A83C1478572E5EDFEEC1164ADB5D.eccvas502 as for how it works, you'll still have to wait for the manual I'm afraid, although most stuff is usually intuitive. Didn't the salesman run through it all anyway? They have done when I've picked my cars up.

Just tried entering the car registration number.

We are sorry, but no information could be found for the VIN/Registration number you entered.

Maybe it has not yet been entered into the system.

Love cruise control, auto-wipers and auto-lights. And in the winter the heated seats are lovely!

I have often wondered how the Police manage, when they want to tail someone covertly. Can the daylight running light be disabled?

On the old Volvos, which have had daytime running lights for decades, you used to be able to remove a fuse for them. No doubt nowadays it is controlled by the central nervous system.

On the Mazda, they only work when you are moving.

Heated seats are great. I wouldn't be without them in a car now.

Going to have a look at how the various functions work later, probably have to have the Air Con running while fiddling with buttons.

On a car that has DRL's it would be more standout to have them switched off ;) But this is a whole different subject on its own, but unfortunately also one of those subjects where those who actually know this will not discuss this on an open forum. If they do, I simply wouldn't believe them.

Another feature I like is auto braking in hazardous situations, again implementations vary; VW can be a bit aggressive as in early, Mercedes have got it spot on.

There are times when I would like all lights turned off, when engine is running. Sometimes I mess with my music, or am on my phone or internet when parked up at night, in our parking bay from coming in late. When lights are on parked up, it attracts attention.

2007 Golf

Love:
- cruise control - boon for average speed cameras
- satnav and bluetooth
- reversing camera
- xenons - so much better for night driving
- heated seats - great in winter
- autodimming mirrors - for those eejits who drive around with full beams on at night

Hate:
- autowipers - I often have to take control
- autolights - kept coming on/off that I decided best to just leave them on permanently
- aircon - not as cold as the wife's BMW, despite service/regassing regularly

Uprated batteries and starter motors are fitted.

Uprated replacement battery prices too. From what I've heard they're around £120 compared to £50-£60 for a "normal" replacement battery.

I like (almost) EVERYTHING!
Adaptive cruise, assisted steering, auto dimming mirrors, auto headlight, adaptive mainbeams, DRL, electric handbrake, automatic parking, all the sensor and cameras.

Only thing I don't like is auto-wipers. They seem to have a mind of its own.

Meh for stop-start. All cars should be moving towards hybrids anyway. Toyato has it right in this regard. Internal combustion engine is too inefficient for urban driving.

Old thing I don't like is the gear leaver. I like Mercedes and Tesla's way of putting the PRND selector on steering column. More space for cup holders and arm-rest. Oh yes, arm-rest is a must!

I can't wait for the car to drive itself! I'm buying a Tesla Model 3 with Autopilot next. A car with so many microcontrollers these days is no different to smart phones, there should be firmware updates every few months, both to patch security holes and to add features when hardware permits. All other car manufacturers are still operating on their old business model: once the car is out of the showroom, it's the customer's problem, the customer has to pay to get new features. (even for map updates!)

From having had cars since 1996 with start/stop, nah not really. The management systems are clever enough as well not to invoke stop/start if it notices battery is low. Just like when other factors come to play like aircon demands etc. And not only that, when stopping/starting the engine it is often in the most efficient position to get it started again. I would say that a lot of any increase in price is due to it being an upgraded model in the first place, with more equipment, a strong engine perhaps, and requiring more crank power. But realistically how often do you need to change the battery anyway ;)

Unusual, it's normally there as soon as it gets a VIN, even whilst being built. You don't have a personalised registration by any chance do you? It doesn't recognise those. Have you tried the VIN instead?

Probably because that is how a lot of people drive. I'm a late braker, and let the car slow itself before needing to brake. Some people seem to brake way too early and I often wonder how they manage to get to where they need to stop or turn before the car has ground to a halt.

That's easily fixed, turn the engine off.(y)

Depends on the car, a well equipped model will have an uprated battery anyway. Batteries have a life of around 6yrs so it doesn't really matter if it costs £10 a year or £20 a year.

Yes possibly, you can adjust it a little through the controls of the automatic cruise control system where you can vary the distance to the vehicle in front. But still I find it too often unnecessarily flash up red and hitting the brakes when it just wasn't required. My Mercedes is very late, so late that at first I thought we didn't have it on it, but gosh does it work. Only had to experience it twice in about two years, but I can honestly say that if we didn't have that system I would not have been quick enough. And both times I suspected the person trying to cause an accident on purpose as the manoeuvre was highly unusual for no apparent reason. But as without it, I would have likely gone in the back :(

That's because the profit margin is so small at original point of sale and they rely on after market sales to make the real money.

My car has cruise control, voice command, auto climate control, heated seats, speed limiter, auto lights, auto wipers and auto dimming mirror. Out of all those, I don't use the voice command, auto cc, heated seats or speed limiter. It's not that I don't like them, I just don't feel the need to use them.

My Jag has stop/start and apparently has to have two batteries, a normal sized one and a half sized one. It's going to be expensive come replacement time. Luckily car batteries seem to last for donkey's years nowadays. I can't even remember the last time I had to buy one tbh, the one in my Focus was still the original after 9 years.

No, just the bog standard plate. Will try the VIN later, provided it is easy to spot. I know they had them in the little glass bit at the front, but not spotted this one yet.

Just been out in it, and the new Galaxy is incredibly nimble and light. Very quick and responsive, fast for such a big car. I did keep within the speed limits.

It won't be long before cars will have a dial control with Auto, P,S,A and M on it, just like a DSLR camera.

New cars and rental cars are the fastest cars :)

New cars a save and comfortable. Doesn't stop be longing for something vintage and uncomfortable and unsafe though :)

Love:
Heated seats
Auto lights
My ridiculous coloured interior lighting in my mini that I can set the colour to - currently purple
Bluetooth connectivity so that I can play playlists from my phone.
Reverse parking sensors

Dislike
Electric handbrake on my husbands car, ok for parking but a real pain on a tricky hill start on a tight blind bend near our house.
Auto wipers. They just never seem to be at the right speed.
Auto dimming mirror, I find I still get dazzled and preferred when you flicked the lever on them.

You should find the VIN at the bottom of the windscreen and on the drivers side B pillar / door frame. What engine did you get in the end?

I love the satnav, a/c, auto dipping rear view mirror, heated seats and blind spot monitors on our Jag.

Not keen on the auto headlights and wipers though. The lights come on if the sun goes behind a cloud for a nanosecond. Meanwhile the wipers don't like to come on if there's less than a monsoon. The most ridiculous thing though is the electronic dipstick: there's no physical dipstick and you can only check the oil level when the engine has been turned off for a minimum of 10 minutes.... errr, don't people check the oil level when they buy fuel then? Even then you can't see what the actual level is (it just comes up as "oil level ok" on the dash) or the state of the oil, eg if it's clean or not. What dipstick thought that was a good invention?

Takes about 5 seconds of deep shade for the lights to come on in mine (59 plate XF) and a similar period before they switch off when I emerge from the gloom. Wiper sensitivity is adjustable and works fine on mine. Dipstick thing is a bit of a PITA - pop the bonnet and you can do it on a forecourt after filling. While the bonnet's up, look in the filler cap to check the colour. A Diesel will turn it black PDQ anyway! Keep it serviced at the recommended intervals, using the correct grades and you'll be fine.

Thanks will check it out now.

Salesman showed us the basics, indicators wipers lights. He said the touch screen was too confusing to teach us there and then, and said we would forget it as soon as we drove out of the gate. Something that is probably true, besides he was too busy and needed to get back in. He had others waiting at his desk.

He already had your (wife's) money so couldn't give a Castlemaine about you any more - let the service department sort it out.

Have to admit, he was such a lovely person leading up and during the deal. When we went to pick the car up, he was a little off hand. He said he had a lot on, he was not not nearly as friendly as before. Missus said maybe he had a row with his wife. Just a typical salesman more likely, I thought. ;)

I think I have the plate, it was on the drivers side. Got the 2.0 TDCi 150 Zetec. Pretty nippy it is too.

Car salesmen are almost by definition rectums! ALL they're interested in is monthly sales figures and they'll do almost anything to reach their targets and outsell their colleagues, even down to getting the colleagues called away to the phone when a likely mug punter arrives. It was quite funny when I walked in to buy mine, the sales manager sent one of his minions to deal with the slightly scruffy looking possible chancer then tried to move in when he realised I was serious. I insisted on dealing with the minionette who got her commission on the sale.

They did all the classic sales tricks with my missus, even coming out with some rather silly stuff. Saying he would ring a manager in London, and ask would they go halves towards the deposit. We went along with this silliness, just to get the bloomin car deal done and get out. He really must of thought we were a pair of thickies, we just let him think it. He came back supposedly just rung up this person, who said Ford would go halves. As if they really would. The price was already inflated, just to pretend to knock it off.

No idea what that thingy is, that I am pointing at. Something to do with the water perhaps ?

The thing with latest things in cars, you have no idea how to fix them. I used to fix my old cars, when things were held on with simple nuts and bolts.

I would guess that is to top up the aircon, only to be done by a professional ;)

Hope this never goes wrong, would have no idea how to fix it. Loved the days of my old cars, Capri, Cortina , Avenger , Austin 1100, I could fix them all.

For the air con to be checked / regassed if required. No need to touch [emoji3]
