New Modem - Superhub 2

Wow, isn't that faster than virgins fastest package. Impressive. Perhaps I should pester them for a new hub to replace the Superhub I have at the moment.

Wish our home hub could simply connect reliably, never mind transmit at speed!

Wireless range is incredible compared to the old hub 3-4 times further/stronger in the same locations.

We called as they advertised a new package named similar to the old VIP except now I get bigger broadband, all free phone calls including mobiles and it's £20 a month cheaper!

Serious question as I know nothing of all this.
Is there a point when the "big numbers" become irrelevant?
I'm running about 2.8Mb/s & 0.8Mb/s
That does everything I need.
I never download movies, my son plays on line games with no issues.
The Wifi is fine in the back garden.

TP pages open as fast as I click them, unless someone has abused the system
and is posting multiple files at around 5Mbs ea.
(but of course I have the technology to correct that. :D)

As a side note we were promised Fibre optic years ago,
living in a developing city, with many "centres of excellence"

Some area's now have it, but its not here.
BT say that it is, until you quiz them.
All they are trying to do is "cold call"
get you to sign up to their unlimited package at a very cheap rate.
Then Slap you with a large increase, once Fibre is actually available :(
I don't think so ;)

There seems to be quite a big difference between download & uploads speeds 160 vs 12 - ordinary FTTC only has half the download speed but almost twice the upload speed. Ideally I'd prefer balanced upload/download eg 40:40 instead of 80:20

In short, unless you upload/download stuff heavily it's pretty irrelevant above a few MB/s.

My Superhub2 with Virgin, I think I'll be asking to get my download speed reduced for the lower payment cos it doesn't make all that difference, logging in to Virgin mobile account I still sit tapping my fingers waiting to get in.

Still waiting on mine. Their original modem they sent me keeps messing up.

Hoestly about 40-60mb, depending on what you do for download. That's about where you notice the speed, espeically with things like iplayer. For me uploading images the 12mb makes a big difference over when I had 2mb

But to cut down to 60mb would save me £5 a month
