Hello to all, joined recently and this is my first posting. I retired recently and have taken up photography as a hobby. I am a complete novice but enjoy it and really keen to learn. Got a Canon 400d last August with 18 - 55 lens. Acquired a 55-250 for my Christmas. Have been attending a photography class at local Tech although have found it only so so. I love photographing birds and landscapes and have been advised to get a tripod. I don't want to spend a fortune say £40 - £50. Would I get a reasonable one for that and what features are essential. Any advice welcomed. Hope I've done this correctly, if not someone will tell me.

Hi Jahu64
I'm new to this site too and what you said in your post also applies to me as we were at the same Digital Photography for beginners course. I have not got used to all the machinery on this site as yet but I am dismayed by my first impressions when looking at the galleries and finding no replies as I was hoping when I upload some photos someone with mure knowledge and ability than me would give some usefull critique. This is a very unfair comment as I have only been checking the site out for a little while so I will come back but in the meanwhile any comments would be appreciated. Looking forward to it being a good experience, see you later
