New member - help with flash!

Hi everyone, hope you can help. I've a Canon 450DS and a Sigma EF-530DG Super. I want to get started with off camera flash and am getting confused with what's compatible and what features I can or can't use with 3rd party equipment.

It looks like a PT04 unit will get me started relatively cheaply - am I wasting my time on this? There seem to be a lot of "experts" out there but I guess everyone has different expectations from their kit so if you can help from a beginner's point of view that would be great!

Are you trying to do portraiture?

You've posted in the welcome section and should have been using a specific sub forum. The moderators will probably fix this for you.
 
Now I've had a proper look round, it should perhaps have gone under the photography equipment section. It's my first post though so hopefully someone will see this anyway.
 
Post the question in the Talk Lighting section and you'll get far more responses - oh and :welcome: to TP :wave:
