Hi All,

looking at getting a new machine and this is the current one that a mate of mine has speced up for me, prodominately for photo edting but am starting to get into video editing and will be looking at running Premiere pro 5.5 on it

Casecom KM-9188 Mid Tower Case
500W PSU
Gigabyte GAB75M Motherboard
Intel Socket 1155 i7 3.4GHz Processor
16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 Memory
120GB OCZ SSD Hard Disk
Nvidia GT610 2GB DDR3 Graphics VGA/DVI/HDMI
DVD +/- Multiwriter
3.5” Cardreader

I presume that i will need to add another hdd for storage / scratch discs as the majority of my work is stored on an external hdd/drobo server set up

you thoughts and advice would be welcomed as computer spec really isn't my strong point

Cheers

Looks ok to me - good that you've gone for plenty of ram as premier is resource hungry.

And yes you will need a load of space for video clips, scratch disks and temp files - internal fast sata 7500rpm disks.

You might also consider dual monitors for video editing

You might get more replies if you made your thread title a bit clearer ;)

Heres an old thread of mine with a spec list

http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=375901

you'll find plenty more if you just go back a few pages in this section.

Plenty of i5 vs i7 discussions too.

That case is pretty cheap. i'd spend a bit more and get something better. the fractal designs one in my link was pretty nice.

Not up on graphics cards, but Premiere Pro can use the CUDA cores on Nvidia graphics cards. You may want a better card (the 610 is the entry level of the 6xx series). Personally, I'd go i5 and overclock (you'll need a different motherboard), an unlocked processor (anything with a K suffix) and I'd advise an aftermarket cooler too.
