New Macbook Pro 15" - Monitor suggestions

I am thinking about going for a 15" Macbook pro, and linking it to a 24-27" monitor for editing. The screen on the macbook is amazing but I really think the extra size would be beneficial for lightroom etc.

Any suggestions, budget of £300-£400. I know the total cost would just about get me a 27" Retina iMac, which I would love but don't think I can loose the portability!
