Just ordered my Elincrom Dlite-4's + freebie Manfroto stand. £450 all in.

Should get them Thursday morning, just need to sort a background now, might make do with some make-shift cloth of some sort and wait until Focus in Feb to actually buy something proper. Then a light meter, but will just wing it for now.

I'm torn between a collapsable Lastolite with train or a paper roll, because I will be using these in living rooms/small areas etc..
I don't want something too big  any ideas folks?

Ta. :)

Just got my d lites and im in the same situation! I purchased the Manfrotto MN314B background stand. Folds up really neat but now in the process of buying Muslin backdrops which will go on the top pole. I have decided to go with the larger size one with the built in train. I would have paper roll if i could but it is a bit big to store as the muslin folds away.

Where did you get them & the freebie Manfroto stand?

Cheers.

Never heard or used them before, but phoned the guy and he was very nice and helpful, so fingers crossed all will be OK. Should it not I paid by credit card anyway so should be covered.

Well they landed this morning which is excellent service.

Ordered 5pm Tuesday arrived 10am Thursday.

All in a nice elinchrom box, can't believe how compact everything is, all fits into 2 small bags.

Will take some pics when I get home and once I work out how it alls fits together etc., I'll try and do a review.

So far so good.

excellent - I'm watching this with interest (on Santa's behalf you understand!)

Thanks for the info Glen. Will you let us know how you are finding the kit when you have used it a little more? Cheers.

Chris:)

The Quick Quick Mini Review

Right this is just a quick 'Whats in the box' run through, I'll do tests and a proper review over the weekend.

It all came in one compact cardboard box.

Once opened and layed out, the two bags that contain everything looked like this, I've placed a CD next to them to give you an idea of size.

The bag containing the lights, once opened, holds the two D-Lite4's, two ring attachments for the softboxes and two sync cables.

And this is the contents all layed out.

The other bag is the stand/softbox bag.

This had the two main light stands, two softboxes (all in their own bags) two mains leads and the free manfrotto backlight stand. I'm yet to work out exactly what and how this free stand works, but I'm due to wander over to manfrotto's site in a mo and I'll keep you posted.

All in all I'm very pleased with the purchase, compared to the Interfit/Bowens kits, personally I'm glad I spent that bit more to get these (although the Bowens is more money actually), I think they will last a lot longer looking at the build quality etc. Also compared to the Interfit and Bowens entry kits, you get the all the bags and this makes it very neat, compact and tidy for storing.

As it was around 10pm last night when I set everything up, I only had time to play around, but within 20 mins I was firing off acceptable shots with no light meter. I would show you these but the wife wanted them deleting, you know how it is, my hairs not right, I look tired etc.

There you go, watch this space, or rather the review threads.

Looks very tasty indeed that. Im hoping to be able to get some lights next year..

excellent stuff
look forward to seeing the pictures of the good lady that you can publish!

Thanks for the update Glen. I am looking at possibly purchasing this system in the new year so will be very interested in your views. Cheers.

Come on Glen.....where's the images of it all set up :)

You were looking at these iirc at Focus in feb, :D

It's the set i'm considering, but I need to sort some space out in order to get the use from them :(

A new house with a garage might be needed :D

I have just recieved my Dlites and am very pleased with the control they give. For the money they are top notch stuff. When you consider i had the jessop portaflash system before. These are a major step forward in controllable lighting. hope you like yours.:)

Good man!

However...

Light meter, for 2 lights is a waste of time - I have 3 and don't use/need one for 99% of the shots I take - for anything 'fancy' it still only needs a friendly subject for a few minutes, so don't waste your money just work out how to use them!

Collapsable Lastolite with train - these are a pain in t'arse to work with, I ordered two, sent them back almost immediately for a refund - my view, good idea not worth the effort

For a portable set-up, get yourself a normal black/white Lastolite for a background and paper for the actual ground if you're after the 'White room' effect. It's easier/cheaper and bigger too as with kids you'll use the Lastolite side on most of the time (which you can't do with the train version)

Okay, so it needs a bit of whitening of the black line of the Lasto where it meets the paper - so what!

My thoughts/experience anyway...:shrug::shrug::shrug:

Cheers

One last point - for anyone considering D-Lite 4s, I use three D-Lite 2s - more than powerful enough and will run all day if you wish

One straight shoot recently was 700-ish activations in 3 1/2 hours without missing a beat; 25 kids shot, over £1,100 in profit taken so far (more I know still to come in)

That means they paid for themselves in 1/2 of this one shoot!!!

I started out with a Jessops set-up too - these are a D-Lite to work with

My bad!!! Been up to my neck in Xmas stuff etc....

Promise I will get this done this week, or you can string me up!!! :gag:

better had old bean......if i can find a set at focus, I might just bring a set home

:D

I've told you before, i'm not sitting for portraits on there again.

I'm STILL getting the fan mail

Nice review Glen how easy is it to put the softboxes together?

I'm going through the same pros/cons of elinchrom/bowen, the kit you have looks smart

The large one was easy, but the smaller one took 10 mins of brute negotiating as I think with being new, it was still a bit stiff for want of a better word.

i spent bout half hour trying to put mine up, but seem to be ok now, just needed a bit of working and following the instructions

yaay, time to string up glen, it been over a week!!!:D

Yeah please do, I'm really sorry for not getting round to this, but work has got in the way and I just haven't had time. Please stick with me and I WILL get the review and pics done PROMISE!!!

Even got a new TV and PS3 and not had chance to play with them, so I am getting desperate :bang:
