New lightmeter

Looking to buy a new lightmeter to replace my old Leningrad 8. I've narrowed it down to between a sekonic L-308s or L-208. It is to use with my Etrsi and transparency, black and White, and infrared film and not in a studio. Is the L-308s overkill?

Well - I use a L358 with mine, and I'm saving up for the 1degree spot finder add-on, so I'd say no, but I'm sure someone will be along in a moment to recommend something from the 1940's

(oh - and before I get hung drawn and quartered - I've also got a Weston V that pepper donated to me, I just happened to get the 358 cheap, and it comes in handy for the studio flash kit as well!)

If you weren't using slide film I'd say yes, because everything else you are shooting has lots of latitude. But handheld meters still hold on to their value well over the years, especially the Sekonic models, so maybe that might help your peace of mind. I've got exposures I've been very content with using my Leningrad 8.

Something you buy once, so get a Sekonic 758.
Picked mine up off ebay from Currys/Dixons, was an ex display, cant have been that well displayed as I never knew they sold Sekonic.

Must say I am generally happy with the Leningrad but it does have a bit of a sticky needle (nothing a gentle tap can't fix) but just felt I should get something a little more accurate.

you could always consider a Gossen Lunasix F, i picked one up from ffordes with a spot adapter for under £100 and it is incredibly accurate, plenty accurate for slide film and the spot adapter is very useful

Yes it uses normal 9v square batteries
