New Lens

The 24-85 is designed for full frame cameras and the 24mm end isn't very wide on crop cameras. It's also getting rather average reviews in last weeks amateur photographer and ken rockwell both spring to mind.

I use a tamron 17-50 as recommended above and save yourself £250.

I found the tamron TOO sharp, sounds odd but it could have been user error as I really didn't have it long. Of course I could tweak afterwards but I prefer the Sigma 17-70, that's a cracking lens for all occasions and has been my all rounder for some time now!

Have you considered a secondhand Nikon 28-70 f/2.8 ?

You sure you didn't have the clarity slider turn too hight?

I do keep reading good things about the Sigma 17-70mm, I just thought it was better to buy Nikon for Nikon cameras?? So I was told anyway..

Not a great fan of second hand lens'es or electricals (depending what electricals) I just think with things like a lens you run a risk when buying second hand. I found a really nice D90 in Cash Converters today and I was tempted it was only £350 but again it being second hand kind of stopped me.

I am a little bit greedy... :D

Nah, only kind of got the 1 unit at the moment, Have had the D3100 2years this Christmas and to be honest it's been a great little camera but just recently I thought I would like something a little newer. Could not decide if to get a D3200 or D5100 so being the kind of person I am, I ordered both, had a play about with them and sent the D3200 back the next day as it did'nt seem much different, I am not contemplating sending the D5100 back.. not sure yet though, it's a great camera just does not seem all too different to what I have..

Oh and I did buy a Nikon Coolpix P510 the other day, only as a toy to see what the 1000mm lens could do, that too went back the next day.. utter rubbish
