I have decided I like this photog lark so I want to invest in some decent lenses, I have my eye on

sigma 70-200 f2.8 ex hsm dg etc
V
canon 70 200 f4 L IS

(cannot decide)

and

Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG MACRO

what I want to know is how reputable are Hong Kong suppliers and what happens if think there is a fault.

Hong Kong suppliers are very cheap compared to UK shops.

and cheekily which lens in the 70-200 range should I get (I know there is a difference of opinion on these 2 but from HK I can get them much cheaper)

Before buying from H-K, it might be worth sending a PM to Kerso on this forum. He supplied me some new Nikon kit at very very good price - cheap enough that I no longer had to order from H-K.

If you do go with H-K, onestop-digital.com is probably your best bet. You may be made to pay customs duty and/or VAT on goods brought in from Hong Kong, but onestop do say they will re-imburse this.
 
I've never bought from HK so cant help you there!

Optically, the Canon f/4 is superior. it's also lighter but, crucially, slower. If you're after action shots, then you'll be wanting the Sigma plus a monopod :)

If you want the best, get the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS L :thumbs:
 
I asked kerso about the sigma 70-200 but he couldn't get them - also you need to remember that canon lens have international warranty. Sigma is a bit funny in Uk as there are lots of suppliers who say Sigma has international warranty, but Sigma UK will only look at it if VAT and customs have been paid on it otherwise you have to send it back off to Japan.

You need to decide if you can cope with the weight of the sigma 70-200 f/2.8 and if you do need that extra stop of light compared to the F/4 IS. IS is good but it does not freeze motion.
