Hi Guys,

Its time for me to invest in a new lens to go with my D60. The standard kit lens is very good but I require more ZOOM for motorsport pictures :D

Can anyone recommend what I should be looking for? My budget is about £200 MAX and I am happy to go with good condition second hand or a grey import to get more lens for my money :)

I was looking at the Nikon 55-200 VR lens as this can be had for about £130 as a import. Would this be a good one to go for? Or will I easily outgrow that much zoom?

I was hoping to get the Nikon 70-300mm VR Lens but this is £325 on warehouse express. Where would be my best bet to get this lens for my budget?......assuming its what I need?!

In case you hadn't guessed by this point I am still VERY much a newbie to this hobby so please be simplistic in your replies :lol:

I would go for a 70-300, The nikon is very good. Warehouse express do credit as well. YOu could pay the 200 you have and pay the rest monthly it would be a very small amount I would think. Thats an option, or keep checking MPB's site for used lenses.

Have you considered Sigma? Or is it just Nikon lenses you want?
 
I have considered Sigma yes. But I figured that the Nikon would be the better investment with the VR feature?
 
Doing a direct comparison between the Sigma and the Nikon versions.....

Sigma 70-300mm F4-5.6 APO @ £160

Vs

Nikon 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 AF-S VR @ £325

After looking through the spec list of both the lenses it seems that the Sigma is actually the better lens. BUT Will it AF on the D60 body? and will I miss having the VR feature if I am doing any hand held long range shots?

Just looking at the prices it seems like that Sigma is the winner. But I want to get the better lens that will work the best with my camera :)

Another thumbs up for the 70 to 300 VR, one of my fave lenses. Would love a few more stops of light, but what can you do, its worth the money.

70-300 VR is an excellent lens for the money.
