Like the title says, I have a Nikon D3100 and im wondering how well a Sigma 150-500mm lens will work ?

Am I better off getting a new body before I get the lens or will the lens work fine on the D3100 so I can wait for a while ? I just dont fancy having a useless lens until I save more for the body.

I wouldnt mind getting into bird photography and also have a friend who goes to do Rally type motorsport. Maybe there is a better lens alternative for the D3100 ?

I have looked at this already, as my eyes dont appear to manually focus very well!! I am always out :(( but this

Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM

Has the motor on the lens, and it £715 on Amazon and £600 @ Mpbphotographic

I would rather pay the extra for brand new I think, unless I advertise for wanted on the TP forums

I bought mine from WEX last year and they are still the same price now £749.

....if you are going to buy new make sure it is a UK model or you will not get the Sigma UK warranty (3 years) Ever some of the ones last year from Amazon itself were not UK models!

Went for it!!! Delivered by 1pm friday. From Amazon

1 "Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3 APO DG OS HSM for Nikon Digital and Film SLR Cameras"
Electronics; £721.96

I hate impulse buying, that final click is so hard to do ><

New camera and new lens ?
You're going to have a fun weekend hopefully. :)

Congrats on your new toys, I shoot Canon and don't know much about Nikon cameras but I do have the Sigma 150-500 OS on a Canon mount and it's a fantastic lens. I use it on my 5D MkIII usually and I get some great wildlife, bird and aviation shots with it. I'll look forward to seeing some of your photos from your new toys soon. Enjoy!

Playing in this snow isn't going to be good, nature has ruined me weekend of taking pics of nature. I hate snow in march haha

I use my 150-500mm every day- get out and shoot some wildlife / Birds :D

Its a cracking lens, I wouldnt part with mine ( have a gander @ my Flickr)

Les

Just opens the lens and I am shocked, I never expected it to be so big, the people at work think I'm a closet pervert and this is my new peeping tom lens

Don't go taking any photo's of closets and they'll settle down! ;)

Haha tried lens on the d7000, I really never expected it to be this big, hopefully I can find some wild life out the window when I get home, if this snow stops zzz I wonder if my shutter release cable from my d3100 will fit this hmmmm

Just got home and saw a pigeon on the wall, so had a go. D7000 fresh from the box and the sigma.

Time to look up good settings for the camera.

Its a lot of lens for the price anyway, I feel like I know where my money has gone for a change heh

Well I havnt been out with it so far, so just taken a few pics from my bedroom window, Dove's and sparrows and pigeons only hah.

There where taken over the weekend with the overcast and terrible weather!! During breaks from the snow.

Some cracking shots Mark. I shoot Canon, the Bigma is next on my list once the finances become available

You might want to start a new thread and give more detail than 'can't make it work'
