I've got a sigma 24-70 f2.8 which i'm just starting to get to grips with and its proving itself excelently, although it can be a little soft.

i've seen a lot of threads saying how good the nifty fifty is,
so my question is apart from the obvious gains (f stop)
is it worth investing in one ?

or should i buy a monopod instead ??

why does choosing photography equipment have to be so flaming difficault ???? :bang:

i can't speak for the canon but the nikon 50mm 1.8 is very worthy as it's sharp and gives good contrast @ an excellent price so i'd imagine the canon one isn't bad either.

all depends what sort of photography you're doing at the end of the day as i've known a couple of people buy monopods and then just sell them on because they never used them
 
I like my 50 and think it gets you into a different kind of photography because of the fixed length, and that in itself can be a nice thing. The f stop difference is also beneficial but for me its having to change my perspective to get the shot rather than changing the focal length that I like (which can be said of all fixed of course).
 
Same with the canon one, pin sharp, fast and great colours. I seen a fewon here for £40 recently. So for that money you cant go wrong.

I use mine alot for close ups and portraite and it is really good.
 
I have the 50 and I have had the 24-70 sigma.. there is a BIG difference in picture quality from the 50.. if you can manage to zoom with your feet then get yerself a nifty fifty :)
