Hi Everyone, not really posted much on here since I joined as had some life changes so my hobby got sidelined while I set up my business but recently re-activated my interest. My amazing girlfriend treated me to a course run by Jeff Turnbull recently which I thought was great.

I've only ever had the stock 18-55 lens f3.5-5.6 and have been wanting some extra glass so I can experiment more.
Decided on the 50mm Prime 1.8g AF-S which I have now ordered. Also considering 55-200 as my next purchase.

Would you all think these would be good choices? I couldn't justify the 1.4 just yet but maybe I will upgrade in the future if I feel i'm limited.

Hi,
I have the 50mm 1.8g AF-S, and it is a stunningly good lens for the price. I can't comment on the zoom you want, as I don't have it, but I guess it depends on what sort of photography you intend to do.
Good luck with your future purchases,
Cheers,
Gary.

The 50mm is a cracking lens but most people find 50mm a little long for general use although if you're looking at doing some head shot portraits it's just the job.

The 55-200VR is a cracking lens and complements the 18-55 perfectly.

I did read that somewhere and that maybe the 35mm would be a better choice.
I wanted a fast lens for good bokeh as I really struggle with the kit lens.
Maybe the 35mm will be next on my shopping list lol.

And GHP, my photography will vary, I enjoy taking various shots as i'm still learning but really like isolated subjects. But then again, maybe it's a phase.

50mm on a crop sensor is defiently a bit long, which is a shame as the 50mm prime is a great little performer- its just a bit tight so doesnt get used as much as it should....... think ill go put it back on the camera actually .. make myself take some more with it!
