Yes
I have one and love it to bits. It is great for wildlife etc but can be a bit heavy if carrying it around all day.

You wont be disappointed with it.

I am rather jealous, a great lens when I hired it for a week. Shame I can't afford one permanently..

:) Excellent. Tim, I couldn't afford it myself, half of the cost is coming as an early Christmas present from my parents.

 Jammy dodger.

At least it isnt my 100-400 L lens

Cant wait to see some results from Oulton with that beast.

Congratualtions :D:D:D

It's apparently a little sharper than the 100-400 Canon lens, or so I've read :) It should be arriving tomorrow, so I might pop down to Oulton on Saturday for a practice. I'm assuming there's a trackday on.

Yes there is. A bike one as well so you will be happy. There is a drift day on as well.

Big Ant from these forums will be there testing out his new camera and I willl be there at the drift track for a few hours in the morining :)

Nice one, I'll try and get bikes and cars on the same day then. It'll be a good test of how feasible it is to hand hold the lens for long periods, since it's going to be bloody freezing on Saturday. Say hello if you see me wandering around Matt.

Lovely looking piece of kit, can a 100-400L really be worth twice the money?

I'll be very interested to hear your views on it, I've been dithering between the Canon 100-400 and this to sit in my bag along side my Sigma 70-200.

Just out of curiosity Richard, did you just order this lens from w/e or did they recommend it to you?

No worries Matt, as long as there's something going round that I can photograph I'll be happy. Mrgrubby, I'll let you know what I think, I'm really looking forward to getting the lens tomorrow.

I just ordered it. I found it on amazon.co.uk, but found Warehouse Express to be nearly £40 cheaper, so bought it from them. Free next day delivery too if you order before 6p.m.

Dave, I've read great things about that lens, it's a cracker for the money. The only thing that put me off is that I don't actually need 500mm that often, and the f/6.3 aperture at the long end of the zoom range. That said, if the 50-500mm had image stabilisation, I'd probably have bought that.

Like I said. Cars on track. Cars on rally course. Plenty to point you new toy at :D

Please tell me I've made the right choice for a good priced tele lens

OK, then. I think you've made the right choice. I had the 80-400 and it was as sharp as anything and super-solid, too. The only real downside on it was the slow focussing. With HSM, your lens should be quite snappy in focussing. Have fun with it.

Well, it's arrived, and all I can say so far is that it's built like a tank. I'm going to Oulton Park tomorrow, so hopefully I'll have my first shots up with it tomorrow afternoon.
