I am currently using a Nikon kit 18-55 GIIED and the 55-200. I have a 50mm.

I am thinking of first getting a Sigma 10-20 as I do enjoy shooting landscapes and a 17-70 Sigma as a upgrade for my main lens when walking about.

Are two different 17-70s available or are they all HSM Macro?

Will I see a huge difference in quality between the Sigma and my current Nikon?

Thanks in advance

What's your budget? I assume around £200-£300?

Personally, I am not sure there is a "huge" difference between the Nikon kit lens and the 17-70 Sigma. Though there is a noticable difference in max aperture at corresponding focal lengths. If I had to bet on it, the Sigma I would think would achieve the better image quality.

The Sigma 10-20 is a really great lens, for landscapes I tend to use that lens equally as much as my 17-55. It also opens up a whole host of different styles not just for landscapes.

If you wanted to save a little cash, the Nikon 18-70 is a frankly awsome lens for the cash. Considering that this lens can be had on ebay for around £150, it certainly saves money.

The 17-70 comes in two versions. Both are macro (though not 1:1), but the newer version has the HSM focusing motor for faster AF speeds.

The Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 is probably worth considering.

I personally have the 10-20 which I like, and no "normal" zoom. I use all primes apart from the 10-20, but that's just my shooting style.
