Im looking to purchase a new Laptop as mine is getting rather tired now. The new Laptop with be mainly for Photoshop and not gaming at all. I am currently looking at the laptop below. Would you go with this Or would there be a cheaper one around that you would recomend. Im not sure if i need such a good GPU but the 16GB or ram and SSD will benifit me as PS is memory intense.

The laptop is a MSI GT780DX-609UK it can be found at www.scan.co.uk

It seems a bit costly for what it is. I would possibly suggest keeping an eye on somewhere like the dell outlet store, most are just returns and they still come with a years warranty which can be extended. I have an alienware from dell, specs are fairly near to the MSI that you linked but it cost me £1100 inc VAT 6 months ago, nearly a £800 saving taking into account VAT. For the same price today I imagine I could easily get one with specs that are fairly similar to the MSI, especially in terms of processor, ram and hard drives.

Is there a reason you want a laptop? If you are predominantly using it for photoshop I may suggest building a tower focusing on the specs you need to get the most out of photoshop as opposed to heavy gaming use.

I have looked at the Dell outlet theres actually some decent laptops on there! Its because im constantly traveling between Plymouth and Manchester i would be better off with a laptop. I already have a tower at home that i intend on upgrading. What components would you recommend upgrading for the most benefit to Photoshop.

Cheers Lee

SSD would be a big benifit.

I'd have to second the dell outlet, i picked up a XPS L502x for £520 this included a 1080p screen and I7 proc. I've since added a SDD and it now flies.

Just focus on getting the best processor, a ssd and as much ram as you can afford / squeeze into the machine taking into account your budget :)

As a comparison, my alienware has an i7 (dont remember exactly which) and 12 gig of ram. It flies through any tasks I throw at it, including having obscene amounts of raws open in PS. The only thing that lets it down is its HDD as its not a SSD, which shall be remedied soon when I get round to it :)
