I am looking to upgrade my current pc & laptop with a new laptop that I will primarily use for photography.

My current laptop spec:

Dell Inspiron 1720
17" Screen
2 GB Ram
Windows Vista Home
Dual Core T2390 @ 1.86ghz
500 GB Harddrive
Geforce 8600M GT

Does anyone have any recommendations as what to get?

Try a macbook. You wont look back.

Something like this would be good if you could stretch to it - Refurb MacBook

more expensive and lower spec than the Asus above, which quite frankly is an amazing spec for the price.. :eek:

Yeah, but they look cool :)

i got a macbook recently and im very pleased with it especially because it makes my friends jealous :P
Got it form this seller on ebay, good cheap computers and loads of software, im not sure on the legality on it but i got a mac for my friend from them ad he registered it all and there doesn't seem to be problems

Anyway this is the link:

Personally, i dislike mac's, not saying there bad or anything, i just dislike paying extra for a pc or laptop cause its got a nice white apple on it (if thats your thing,cool,i'm not "dissing" its how i feel about them) I was recently looking to upgrade to a laptop to replace my 1st Gen I7 to a 2nd Gen Sandybrindge I7. if your budget can bend slightly to around £1030, i suggest this: http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/Xplorer_X6-9400_Notebook/

was my first option, but being laid off work,and deciding to try and start my own business,i had to opt for a cheaper gaming laptop at around £500. My Current set up still works awesome however :)

Edit: I would upgrade the Hard drive to the 500Gb 7200Rpm for speed purposes, or include an SSd :)

Can we not have another nonsensical Mac v PC discussion?

Some people like them, some people don't - deal with it.

TBH if your spending £1000 on a pc its gonna be fast, wether its a windows or mac, personally i like my nice white apple logo :P and im not sure how much difference i would notice in day to day stuff between what iv got and the top end stuff (mines 2.0ghz core 2 duo with 4gb of ram) and that does everything i need and i got it for £570 and it'll probably be great for me for the next 2-4 years :)

I didn't mean it to sound like that, I think there are some faults with some of apples technologies,but i like some of their stuff, im sitting here with an Iphone4 and an Ipad2 :P i just dislike the pc's

Agreed! only Con with a Windows based Pc, No Stickers :(

i dont think anybody was, people were just suggesting the best PC for the guy, i think we were just pointing out the pros of our preferred computers :thumbs:

I was referencing the string of other threads which just turn into a Mac v PC debate.

Normally the PC/Mac debate starts when some Mac fanboy posts a load of "facts" about why Windows machines aren't as good as a Mac ;)

The simple truth.

PC = hardware + Windows
Mac = hardware + OSX

If buying new, with Macs, you only get high end hardware, with a PC, you can get anything from cheap and relatively slow to ultra high end hardware (i.e. above Mac specs). Generally, there is a price premium on Mac hardware (i.e. the same spec will cost more from Apple than a PC manufacturer).

Assuming you have adequate memory, slowdowns over time are generally PICNIC faults and occur on both PCs and Macs (ask Neil who looks after both).

You pays your money and you takes your choice. Simples.

There are other factors to consider when choosing between them.

Back on Topic....

Dell have some good laptop deals going at the moment. Some high spec laptops at relatively cheap prices.
