New landscape lens Irix 15mm f2.4

650 euros fir the heavier one 500 euros for the non heavy I hear from friends at the show ;-)

Optimised for 50 plus megapixels too - could be one to watch.

Edit - looks like it will be good for Astro work with lockable focus at any point too.

I had a play with one of these at the photography show yesterday and I have to say, it felt brilliant in the hand. I can;t say much for the image quality but corner sharpness appeared to be quite good. The lockable focus is an excellent feature too, can;t wait to try one of these out when they are available!

A 15mm has its place, but its a little wide for normal landscapes, especially on FF. Very good UWA though.

Me too. My thoughts exactly. The engineering and build quality seem to be excellent. If the image quality is up to the same level, they will deserve to do well.

Incidentally the second lens in the range, after the 15mm f/2.4, will be an 11mm f/4. That could be very interesting.

Off to the show tomorrow will test etc if they let me

I've been trying to figure out what this actually means......anybody shed any light on it?

Bob
I think it means the resolving power of the lens should hold up to high megapixel images.

That would be a logical conclusion but Irix's own published MTF chart seems to show that it's not even remotely in the ball park for 50+ Mp.
50+ Mp is >120 lpm and their MTF40 is only around 25% of that figure at the edges.

Marketing BS, aimed at 5ds/r owners ;)

Glow in the dark markings too - trying to take the astro crown from Samyang?

So apart from the materials are both versions optically the same? Not really seeing the need for a heavier one unless you don't look after your gear.
Exactly the same optical formula. One of them is weatherproof and one isn't.

There words to me are they are a totally new manufacturer, i really like the lens, quality of build was excellent, it sat nicely on my 7dmk2, took some test shots, i didn't pay much attention to my camera settings at the time, (was feeling quite tired, that tired I didn't even notice the 11mm mentioned on there display until I just looked at the pics!) it looks good.
