Hey guys,

I'm the new kid around here so thought I would share some information about my self.

I'm 19 and a web designer for Schuh in Livingston, Scotland.

I just purchased the Canon 600D and currently only have the 18-55mm kit lens. I'm just starting out this is all brand new to me, I've maybe taken 10 photo's on a DSLR before this purchase but It's something I want to learn - I'm hoping you guys help.

I'm mainly photographing family and portraits but I want to explore more to capture some outdoor stuff. I'm going to get a 50mm f1.8 (nifty fifty canon lens) next.

You can check my web site at www.abovefunction.com

Friend me on Flickr - www.flickr.com/photos/abovefunction/

And below is an example of one of my photo's...

House in Bangour Village

If anyone has any tips, good web sites, great tutorials, good photography spots or any advice I'll gladly listen.

Welcoem aboard.

I like the colours in the shot above, very retro.

Can you do anything with the red chair, just catches my eye?

Get some more shots up!

Thanks for the warm welcome and I'm quite pleased with this shot, not sure what else I could really do with the read chair. It's a bold red so it stands out for anyone looking at the details. I may work more on it so the sky comes back into it aswell... it was a very grey day though so not much detail in the sky

Also I'm uploading more shots to flickr as we speak :)

Hi Grant, welcome to Talk Photography :)
Web designer for Schuh eh? That's pretty cool!

Honestly, the more images you take, and the more advice you take on board, the better you'll get, so don't be shy - just post up some of your work in the forums and get some feedback.

As for the photo you posted - it looks like quite an interesting building and I'm sure you could get some good shots there. However, in this one the sky is really washed out and the composition isn't too good. I think there's too much going on in the photo and you need to figure out what you're focusing on. Maybe go back and have another explore :)

Great first effort Grant.

Lets see if we can get out at lunch time tomorrow
