Hmmmm !!

I have no previous knowledge of Sam Smith so cannot compare the Bond song with anything else he has done, but I find his voice in that song to be almost monotone. I would not class it as singing. More like talking through music.
I struggled to listen for 3 minutes of it before chopping.

Awful - but matches the Bond films perfectly. The song is flat, dull and unispiring whereas Skyfall was an excellent track. I dont like the modern bond films though, cant beat the Connery or Moore years!

Sorry but for me Craig is the best Bond ever, and Casino Royale the best film too. :)

Cant comment on the track though haven't heard it yet

Guess I grew up with Moore and the Connery ones were on at Xmas! I just find the new ones too 'modern' and not much different to other action films. There seemed to be more humour in the past especially Moore, and the storylines seemed better. Having the bid bad Russians helped, along with Spectre - the villians dont have it either... the one in Casino Royale was not a patch on the likes of Goldfinger, Robert Shaw, Blofeld or Drax

I have to admit that I was never a big Bond fan. I remember going to see a double feature when I was in my early teens of Goldfinger and Dr No and the next time i went was nearly 40 years later to see Casino Royale!

Agreed on both points, Chris Evens was raving about it on his show this morning, building it up, first ever play, etc etc,
I thought it was a total anti-climax, the worst Bond song ever.
And as for Adelwa singing Skyfalwa

Connery for president, but Craig wasn't bad I must admit.

Heard it this morning for the first time and was not impressed at all.
Less impressed when they put together a montage of "iconic" Bond theme tunes (three of which I didn't remember), including Adele's Skyfall, but neglected to include any of the Shirley Bassey numbers:rolleyes:

Any Bond film made after Moore is infinitely better than those with him in. And Connery. Awful films. Brosnan is the best Bond because of Goldeneye.

So, did the film make Brosnan, or did Brosnan make the film?
;)

The second thing. It's a great action film with a Bond storyline attached. People get too precious about these films. They're just action films end of the day!

Skyfall was a boss film. Crappy song though. Best recent Bond theme was the Chris Cornell one that I think was called Another Way to Die.

The soundtrack for Casino Royale was excellent too. Great song, Chris Cornell on form. Even the graphics weren't bad (some of the 60s graphics are excruciating, but the Bassey songs were tremendous).

Goldeneye was a good Bond film as well (the other Brosnan films less so... Die Another Day was pants *), and I quite liked the Dalton films as well. Connery was a good Bond, Moore less so. Moore's problem was he lacked the threat of Connery, so they compensated with cheesy one-liners, which for me didn't work. Craig can get away with the gags because he still looks like he could beat the hell out of you.

* Less "Die Another Day" and more "Kill Me Now and Get This Over With".

I thought it "You Know My Name".

Another Way To Die was the Alicia Keys one, wasn't it?

I don't really pay that much attention to Bond themes, they're all over-hyped, but this one is particularly awful!

As for the best Bond, I also grew up with the Connery/Moore films. I think Connery was better but I enjoyed both at the time. They all seem very dated now though.

I liked Brosnan but he peaked too early with Goldeneye, the following 3 weren't even close to it IMHO. Dalton was poor if I'm honest, can't even remember anything from his attempts. I think Craig is a breath of fresh air, a very good Bond for the current era although I didn't enjoy Quantum of Solace. If Spectre comes anywhere near yo Casino Royale or Skyfall, I'll be very happy.

I grew up with Connery as Bond and the time they were pretty good action films, nothing really came close.
But TBH these days, I don't really see a lot in them, I do watch them when they come on the TV or my lad buys the blue-ray,
but I can take them or leave them, I'm not even sure I've seen them all ( the latter day ones, since the days of Connery and Moore) TBH.

The rest of the Brosnan output was dire to be fair but Goldeneye makes up for it. Dalton was a great Bond too. His Bond is from the novels and that's probably why people didn't warm to him. The whole point of the character is that he's a horrible man, calculating and nasty. Dalton did that. Moore was horrible. His films are dirge apart from Live and Let Die which if my knowledge is correct was written for Connery anyway.

Actually that's a good point, I did see that one and agree.

Yes, I agree. It's why I liked the Dalton films - they're more believable (as believable as a Bond film can be). He's a cold-hearted killer, but also fallible and gets beaten up. License to Kill was a pretty good Bond in my opinion * - much better than Moore's films (Moonraker, anyone?). It also helped that Dalton is an excellent actor.
Craig is of a similar mould - his Bond is an unpleasant man. His arrogance and indifference as he kills the section chief in Casino Royale sets the scene nicely. But, like Dalton's Bond, he isn't perfect and gets hurt. Moore barely got his shirt creased.

If there was some good to come from Die Another Day is that it was soooo bad that it was clear Bond had jumped the shark and needed a reboot. The Bourne franchise (and Ronin etc) showed that you can make an action film that isn't silly and I'm glad Bond is striving for similar. No more invisible cars, please.

* Also contains the best money-laundering gag.

Casino Royale was one of my favourite Bond films but then they made a new version!

Not heard the latest theme tune so can't comment on it.

Best Bond soundtrack is without OHMSS, which also happens to be my favourite Bond film.

Agreed 100% on all counts.
I've always thought UFO's Profession of Violence would have made a good Bond theme, or used for closing credits at the very least.

They was on about it the other day, saying it could be the first bond theme to reach #1. Not sure I can agree with that.

Propellorheads remix is legendary too.

Not to mention Louis Armstrong at the end of the film. What a song THAT is.

It certainly has potential :)

I'd say thats a no, too, but then again some of the crap that gets up there, these days who knows? ;)

Another vote for dreadful here, but then I'm no Sam Smith fan.

First plays however (and completely non JB related)......Heard the new ELO track yesterday morning on R2 on the drive home.
It was like they'd never been away.

Without watching it again I'm not sure that song is at the end of the film. I features in the scene when Bond and Tracy are falling in love, and the tune is used as incidental music throughout that film.

I made it to 1:51. That is just painful.

Apparently he's been accused of ripping off Michael Jackson's Earth Song but in the 1 minute 51 seconds of my suffering, I didn't pick up on that.

I thought it was played at the bit when she's assassinated? I may be wrong, I've never seen the whole film!

Great track. Classic Elo with the Beatles thrown in!

I heard it at 7.10 this morning and thought it was okay. Just listened to the link at the top and thought WTF was that :(

Thats what I thought too, but its been years since I've seen it.

And here's the scene with the actual song. Someone kindly provided subtitles too.
