Sorry if I sound dim, but i've just took out an 4S, not knwoing the 5 is due probably tomorrow.

1)
do you think the £31 pm tariff Ive took might come down when the iPhone 5 is announced. If so I can return the handset within 14 days, and maybe re-buy the phone 4S at maybe a cheaper rate in a few days ???

2)
on my allowance, it says 500Mb mobile internet ( this is 3G i know ) but also says 2GB Wifi.

I have wifi at home, can't it use as much WIFI as i like ?

I don't know about your allowance but I only have 500mb and I use my own wifi at home, and wherever I can, I never use the phones own Internet to download stuff .... Got to eek out those Mbps :D but then I only pay £20 for 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mb

Oh also they're probably going to stop supporting the iphone4 sooner than later, you'll be fine with a 4s but, if you send yours back and go for a 5, your going to have a higher resale value on your new shiny 5 than your not so shiny nearly almost out of support 4s

Does that make sense?

I think i'll keep it, but I was just thnking if the 5 comes out, the tarrif's they've been selling might come down a bit, but who knows.

Why should I continue on £31 pm when in 5 days they may be selling it at £25/28 as the 5 is avail.
Maybe it wont come down and car phone warehous ewill just stick iphone 5 at £38/40
 
Personally? I would wait!

In less than 24 hours, you will know if you have made the correct choice or not.
 
I can't see the tarif coming down straight away though as the demand for the iphone 5 will be so great that some people will still buy the iphone 4S they'll only lower the tarif when sales drop off.
 
iphone 5 sale date in the UK is 21 september - will you still be in time to return the 4s?
 
Generally when Apple announce a new iPhone they announce price drops to the current crop which I always believed were immediately adopted by sellers so theoretically the tariff should be cheaper if you send it back and reorder.

I doubt you will see any tariff reductions this month, apple products don't work that way, it will be October before there is proper stock in the shops (as always, first stock will sell out and it will be 2 weeks or more for follow up stock.

You can use all the WiFi you want at home (or anywhere else you get free WiFi like at work).

The WiFi they are referring to is the likes of BT Openzone and the Cloud, the network should supply you with log in details and details of which ones you can use.

You have researched it its what you want its at a price you can afford and will the 5 really offer you anything more than you will already have??

And don't forget, there will probably be a significant upfront charge for the new iPhone 5 on the lower tariffs (don't know if you paid anything upfront for your 4S)

With regards to tariffs, I think the £31pm seems a good price for the 4S and I doubt you'll see a drop in the tariff price by much if any for the goid near future, perhaps the upfront cost (if any) will drop.

I'd wait til tomorrow and see what the 5 is about and if it's something you prefer over your 4S and then make the choice what to do ...
 
Check the small print. Depending on the network, some do not give you a 'get out' period. Once you're signed into the contract, you'll have to see it through or pay a big fee to get out of it early. My daughter fell foul of this recently with a Blackberry contract and is regretting it now!

Just open it and enjoy it!

Was that early 2009 or earlier?

Vodafone changed to the statutory 7 working day return around the summer of 2009.
 
I got a 14 day return thing with Vodafone in Summer 2010... :thinking:
 
Guys I Work at orange and there's a 14 day return policy, unless you took it out in store and then its store discretion if they take it back or not within that time. As far as tariff reductions go when the new iPhone comes out, if orange is anything to go by then you are unlikely to get a cheaper tariff on the 4s, and you will probably have to pre register your interest in the new iPhone as demand will be massive. Everything everywhere (orange/t mobiles parent company) have just announced a new network called EE which is geared towards 4G, and the iPhone 5 is blatantly being released at the same time so it may pay to see what options are available there as it will be way faster than 3g (I'm not on sales btw I'm on cs just a bit of friendly advice) :-)

Up until Friday 24th July 2009 the 14 day return period stands for online sales due to an error where the phones online were advertised with a 14 day return.

That's since been corrected and from the 24th July 2009 the 7 day T&C applys.

You have a seven working day window to return goods bought under the Distance Selling Regulations as above. In store purchases don't qualify for this.

Some retailers offer more generous terms and conditions, for both distance selling and in store purchases. That's just part of their customer service, and not a legal obligation.

None of this affects your statutory rights to return faulty goods, but that's not an issue here.
 
I thought with contracts you get a cooling off period. Does this not apply here?
 
If you 'researched' it I can't see how you didn't realise a new one was about to be announced.

It has now and old prices are dropping next week.

Not if you go to the retailer and sign the contract on his premises. Instore = no right of return or cancellation.

Depends who you signed with. O2 give you 14 days to return if bought in store.

Trying not to seem pedantic, but that is still not a statutory right of return. Some retailers allow terms in addition to your rights, but there is no right of return for anything bought on retail premises.

The O2 website seems to contradict the 14 day return policy for them as well, according to the o2 website it is DSR 7 working days. If they are still offering 14 days instore it's probably beneficial to buy instore then.

Looks like they may have changed it to 7. Was 14 days 2 years ago when I exchanged a phone I got for my son because he didn't like it.

May not be statutory but if they are offering it, as they are, it does become part of the contract so you are then within your rightes.

A lot of retailers changed policy around 2009/2010. It was probably costing them too much as a lot of people used it as a test drive.

Some retailers even have separate T&Cs that differ from the networks own, for example CarPhoneWarehouse has no returns allowed on any network.

I agree with regard to becoming part of contract, but it still doesn't give you the same rights as statutory, if they fail to follow those additional rights the only recourse is through the courts. TS, for example won't get involved.
