New iPad Pro...

I love apple... I really want one but I think I'm gonna get a Wacom cintiq 13HD instead, for me it'll be more useful.

A Surface with a Stick :)

Apple playing catch up. I'm sure it will sell in the millions but it doesn't look to be as good as the Surface Pro 3 in productivity terms. Interesting that they have recognised the poor quality of iWork by having MS on stage showing how productive an iPad Pro can be with MS Office :)

The pencil looks underwhelming and very expensive

are the prices out yet?
Yes
From BBC;

Apple said the iPad Pro should run for 10 hours of use between charges and would be available in November and range from $799 to $1,079 (£520 to £702) depending on its level of storage and 4G connectivity.

The Pencil costs $99 and the keyboard $169.

Different machines, the Surface pro is in effect a fully functioning PC the iPad pro is a tablet. The Surface pro will be a better pc than the iPad pro but the iPad pro will be a better tablet :)

the surface offers better flexibility though. it can only be a good thing to help drive surface prices down perhaps.

Agreed. You can pretty much use the surface pro just as a normal tablet

A genuine question - can either screen be calibrated?

I can't say I'm sold on the iPad Pro, sadly the US prices will probably just get a £ sign swapped in which makes it very expensive for only 128GB storage v the Surface Pro 3.
I tried an SP3 a few months ago and was impressed but not enough so I'm looking forward to seeing with the SP4 looks like, as has been said the Surface is a tablet and a laptop, the iPad Pro really at this point is a supercharged iPad.... get me Mac OS on it and we'll talk!

I watched the keynote speech today for this and was very impressed even more so to see them bring Microsoft in something I've not seen before from 2 major players / competitors which can only be a great thing for us consumers

People don't by the Surface for a tablet
Some people do as not everyone buys the keyboard.

Also I use mine as both depending on what I'm using it for. I've replaced both a tablet and laptop with it

the big issue for me with the MaxiPad is that it lacks mouse support. All the marketing bull skips that.

its the one thing i missed on the Ipad the ability to scribe Properly, i hated using the pigs tits pens.. this pro will be great for evernote and things like that. Ive got a surface and where as its ok, its not great and i much prefer taking an ipad into meetings as its faster and more convenient, but that my personal preference and its subjective just like Android VS Apple.

I think with the App support Apple has and other things it will be great.

A lot of guys i work with sacked off the surface for the Lenovo helix.... the problem it had the core I7 variant with overheating were not good.

I know a fair few who did just that.....

Me, I got mine because it is a very good Hybrid.

Such a shame that Apple dropped the ball with this one. It would have been fantastic if they could have bridged the market for the Pro by having it as a full tablet on the move/sofa, and dock it and turn it into full OSX as an alternative. That to me would be a pro device and definitely would entice me back to Apple.

Will the iPad pro run OSX applications? Or are they offering a new range of iOS equivalents of OSX programs?

No, it is iOS only. Basically just a large iPad.

Just watched the keynote video, looks a lot more dtp but hopefully there will be some decent imaging tools

Will the Adobe suite just be a cut down mobile version?
They said it has desktop performance (but I think they say that at the keynote every year) so maybe, but I doubt it

Looks like the iPad pro will be just a bigger version of the standard iPad, nothing's has been done to address file handling and other similar issues, which is really needed to make it needed for picture editing.

Yep @ Bigger version of the standard iPad.

Apple could have pushed their thinking a little and incorporated a SD and USB port along with a higher capacity options.

Here's hoping for a iPad Pro S specifically tailored for photography :)
