Just picked up a (VERY!) cheap iMac and although it won't take over from my Windows PC, I'd still like to know how to use it!

I've never ever used a Mac before, and I was wondering if there's an 'idiots guide' somewhere that might give me a clue as to how to use it?!

Managed to start it up, open Safari and log on TP (and type this message!) but that about it so far.....

TIA

Nice one Andy, you just sit in front of it and wait for it to crash or for the blue screen of death........it is a long wait so you have to be really patient because it may never happen.

However, if you use it then it may crash :D

And if you cross it with a Nun it will never go down on you :D

Have a look at the sticky at the top of the forum: Apple/iOS tip of the day for a year.

As to the jokes about crashing: it's like watching an episode of The Comedians (if you don't know it, try: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jn2WTi5AHU) from the 70's. Hang on, I'll just get a pint of Double Diamond and settle down for some entertainment ;)

Try

http://support.apple.com/manuals/

There's an basic instruction book for the iMac there. OK it's refers to the latest incarnation, but it should point you in the right direction.

You'll find it's probably not too different from your windows machine. Some of file layouts are a bit different. You have Applications, not programs and one or two other differences but it shouldn't take you to long to figure it out. The fact you got it started and logged on to TP was probably the most difficult bit :)

You probably will not regret buying the mac. I bought one 2 years ago, after a few weeks wished I had never laid eyes on it LOL and now would not go back to windows, love it.

If you need tutorials on specific Mac software (photoshop etc) or the OS, macprovideo are pretty good. I think they have a free OSX tutorial.

What model / spec is it and how much did you pick it up for, love my mac and once you get use to it you wont want to use windows.

Surely it's A glass of wine for the Ladies

Finally got my broadband back working, so I can now participate in my thread!!!

It's a 17" iMac5,1 Intel Core 2 Duo, 1gb memory, Radeon X1600 128mb GFX
Paid £100 for it.

Only got it to mess about with because it was cheap (I think!)

Thanks for all the input

Jeeze! Thats an amazing price! Where'd you get it?

I thought it was - hence why I jumped at it :D
My brother-in-law is a teacher, and his school have just upgraded their Macs.
They sold the others off, but there was so much interested they have to raffle them (names in a hat).
We were one of the names that got pulled out :woot:
