You wait for decades for new (old) human species to be discovered and then two turn up at once ;) :

Two random thoughts to get conversation going...

1. Many astro / theoretical physicists seem to think that life may be quite widespread in the universe but intelligent, technological life is probably very, very rare.

This little ol' planet seems to have produced half a dozen or more big brained, tool using humanoid types as well as who knows what they'd do with opposable thumbs marine types.

2. The "aliens" are a super advanced species that live in the ocean depths.

Though unfortunately the surviving one is not intelligent enough to preserve itself so if the pattern is repeated in the rest of the universe the outlook for a really intelligent life form is bleak ;)

Whenever someone asks me if I believe in life on other planets, this is my reply. I think life exists on other planets. But it’s mostly going to be stuff like lichen. Very primitive.

Even if there is advanced and super intelligent life as we might imagine, the vast distances of space means we will never really meet. Ever.

You forgot Homo Gammon. They eventually died out because they didn’t like to mix with others.

wait till we eventually get to mars before believing that totally

I haven’t done the maths but, (taking sci-fi as a guide) ifintelligent life evolved somewhere a billion years ago and they set off (because their planet/star was dying) in a giant self contained spaceship travelling very fast, maybe they could get here before we kill our planet ;). I’m sure someone will have done the maths :). We could ask the well-known photographer/printer/physicist/sci-fi writer Ctein:

The problem is not only distance it is also one of time..
the chances of two intelligent creatures appearing in the same time frame, and at distances capable of communicating are very remote.
There could have been thousands of such beings who have appeared and past away before they could communicate with us..
It is only in the last couple of generations that we have advanced to the stage where communication with us might be possible.

Many generations of star systems have come and gone in the universe before our own was formed. Any one of which could have been teeming with intelligent life.

I take it you haven't seem Prometheus?
That explains the origins of man (y)

:D

No, not since he brought fire :( .

I read a lot of sci-fi when young but not much since. The history of ’discovery’ of other peoples here on earth makes one wonder why people are so keen to meet aliens :(.

It was the prequel to "Alien" that never was supposed to be, according to Ridley Scott that is.

I doubt that they are in any real rush to return either ;)

Inter Steller or even inter galactic travel is way beyond us but I think it's a mistake to say that it's impossible. It was only a short time ago that powered flight was impossible and before that people believed that humans would be suffocated if travelling on trains. Who's to say we're right on this one now? Travelling vast distances and being able to visit other planets may be possible, it may just be that we humans don't know how to do it. I think it's a mistake to think that we humans know enough to say with certainty that it's impossible. Others may know better.

Religious and historical texts all over the world document visitors from other worlds and some try to describe the craft and even how many occupants could travel in them. These may be all just stories and inventions or drug induced visions but they could be ancient contemporary attempts to document a reality at that time.

Anyway. All these different humans... I wonder how different they are? Could they represent local groups who were at one time cut off from outside contact and so interbred and demonstrated dominant family/group features who then disappeared because they either died out or gained access to outside groups and interbred with these other populations.

Highly intelligent life forms may exist on some distant planet, or possibly floating in space. It may one day discover how to use wormholes, or black hole. They may even find a way to travel back in time, and visit us sometime last year. :)

Some think that UFO's aren't aliens from other planets but time travellers or from other dimensions.

Who knows? Not me :D and I think it may be a mistake to assume "we" know enough about how the universe works to say what's impossible.

I've read some amazing claims about human activity off planet. Reportedly there have been several people making similar claims over the years. People claiming similar things doesn't of course necessarily make them true and even if there is any truth in these claims it may not be known to us in our lifetime.

A UFO is a flying vehicle that has not been identified, but there probably are other space vehicles out there. David Vincent has seen them. ;)

PS

If a space craft does land here, will the spaceman / woman be deemed an illegal alien.

Funny that we call humans from another country, Aliens.

Strange unidentified things are seen and tracked underwater too. Shag Harbour is a famous case. Believe it or not to whatever degree. I'd like some confirmed info on aliens in my lifetime. Friendly ones of course :D

We watched "Captive State" last night. I'd never heard of it but liked it, a bit.

It's about a group of people attempting to start a war between humans and an alien race that has been dominating earth for a number of years. The point of starting a war being that if there's a war we have some hope but without one we and the planet are doomed.

Humanity has a long way to go before any alien race (if they exist) would want to come near us. We can't even get on with each other over a simple thing like skin colour. Add in religion and politics and then we're completely screwed, not to mention that we're doing our damnedest to destroy the planet due to our endless greed for more, more, more.

Of course if our ‘reality’ is really just a simulation/hologram/matrix/whatever then the ‘gods’ who are playing the game may introduce ‘aliens’ at any time — maybe the ancient Greeks nailed it :).

There you go assuming gender, didn't you know there was 49 genders on the earth at least ...
How many do you suppose are "out there" ?
:D

Not an expert, but I think some/many are not ‘vehicles’ but are lights or meteorological phenomena and so on, ie not solid, so whether they qualify as ‘objects’ even I’m not sure ;).

If they are in light form, they might be able to travel at the speed of light. Even then, it would still take an age to get here. No idea why they would want to visit us though. ;)

If 'they' have a level of intelligence to transport themselves across the Universe (Multiverse) then they'll have enough intelligence to do as you say,Jon. Give us a miss :D
