Hi All,

I have been with Westhost since 2008 on a multi-domain/sub-domain hosting account. It has been pretty good, and they fix most issues quickly.

Sadly the server & control panel I am on needs to be upgraded to take advantage of some of the latest key versions of some software and the are not being particularly reactive and could mess me around for over 6 months to get it resolved. I haven't yet threatened to leave if they don't sort me ASAP - but it is an option if I have a viable and checked out alternative.....

So I'm looking for that alternative.

- Must be able to run multiple domains
- Must be able to set up multiple email addresses
- Must be able to handle IMAP email (assume this is standard and won't be an issue)
- Must be able to run latest versions of Wordpress and Photocart as a minimum

- Ideally UK based
- Fast, reliable

As a guide at the moment I'm paying about £175 for 2 years hosting.

I'm not looking to move to Photium, Photoshelter, or any other website-as-a-service provider.

Any suggestions please. Many thanks.

TSO

Thanks for all the TSO recommendations (I'll check out Vidahost in a mo) - they look pretty good - although I just missed out on a Black Friday deal and they had a DDOS attack this morning !

Any particular reasons why ?
How long have you been with them ?
Did you have a free website migration service from them - how did it go / what did you migrate over ?

Thanks again

OK so TSO = Vidahost as they are both Paragon Internet Group. Slightly different offers. Or am I wrong ?

Thanks !

MOD EDIT: PLEASE DON'T ASK MEMBERS TO POST AFFILIATE LINKS IN THE THREAD AS IT'S AGAINST OUR FORUM RULES.

TSO are good if you need email. I've used them for years for some clients and they have been great. I use Digital Ocean, but then you'd need to handle email with a third party.

There are referral codes that can help people that already use it, or if you search vidahost for a "discount" there is a code available to save yourself.

I've been with Vidahost for 3 years with multiple domains and various software installations, there has been some downtime which had affected me but they've always been very quick to resolve issues and the servers have always been quick for me.

Edit: Just checked my logs, in total there was 2 hours of "issues" (slowdown, downtime etc) in 3 years of reported issues, of which only 45 minutes affected my site.

I like the flexibility of Linode SSD hosting as there is never the problem of using out of date software as you have full control of the hosting and can install the latest version of whatever software you want. I pay $10 (about£6) per month for 1GB ram and they allow you to select UK a datacentre if you wish.

Thank you - although looks a little bare-metal, for me.

Currently looking between the TSO and Vidahost plans, which if they are the same company appear to be the differential. I'm also chopping out a load of old images from expired client galleries to free up space and get a better feel for what I need in terms of disk space. That has made a big difference to what I might need to spend.

Ok guys, next person posting an affiliate link gets a warning... I'm sick of having to keep removing them.

Once Again.... Affiliate links are against the forum rules... if posted in a thread, as they stand as a permanent unpaid advert / potential source of revenue. So - please - stop posting them in here.

Just to be contrary, if you want full control you could look at a VPS option.
I moved my hosting from TSO to a VPS on account that I had multiple domains to host, I wanted more control over the hosting environment, more flexibility around backups and a little bit more performance. The overall cost pans out about the same. The only downside is the extra effort involved.

Incidentally, it's also reduced my page load times on hosted Wordpress sites from >4 seconds to <2 seconds.

Thanks everyone for all of your kind feedback and suggestions for companies. It is much appreciated.

Sorry if I unknowingly caused anyone a mod smacking who was genuinely helping me with info by asking if there was a discount link that might benefit us both. I hadn't realised that there was a rule in place for that.

Appreciate this is a big old thread resurrection but wanted to say just placed my order with TSO host, as the renewal of my current provider is due in May, and looking forward to migrating over my sites.

Thanks again for your recommendations.
