Ok my old hard drive (non ssd) failed so i got a new one, just plugged it in, i can press del on bootup and see in the bios screen that its there, but when i go into disk management inside windows to allocate and set it up it doesnt show up! what do i need to do

Is the drive spinning up? Cables connected correctly (check both ends)?

no idea if its spinning up, cant hear anything, cables all clicked in place firmly, im on windows 10, its a WD Blue 1tb drive. I can see it listed in the BIOS but it doesnt show as an unallocated drive in the drive management window.

Sometimes you have to format etc. in a usb caddy first.

Oops, missed the showing up in BIOS. This seems to be a fairly common issue, which either resolves itself after a couple of reboots or requires a BIOS reset. There's plenty of suggestions, just do a search.

well i sorted it by going into the BIOS and changing the sata setup to IDE, rebooted and it was now showing in computer management so i allocated it up, rebooted again and went back into the BIOS and put the sata setup back to ACHI, rebooted and its still there. So fingers crossed it will be ok! Ive 2 SSD drives and this new normal drive for games so the mix of types could be tripping it up. When i save my pennies up i will replace it with a big SSD

Some discs need to be initialised before windows explorer will show them. Windows has a disc tool that will do this.

The disk management tool is where Ashley said the drive wasn't appearing, not Explorer.
