I've currently got a 7D which tend to use with my Sigma 35 1.4 I've also got the 24-105 plus a couple of other Tamron lenses. Now I've got some money doing nothing in the bank and I'm seriously tempted by either the 24-70 mrk2 or a 5D3 but Iam really unsure what route to take.

Anyone else been in a similar position?

Unless you need the reach, Id get the 5D3. You already have decent FF glass.

Hi there - unless you want more reach to go with your 7D [and maybe do some sport or birds or some such] then maybe a new 5DIII - you would be switching to a full frame sensor so that will mean your lenses won't reach as far. Not sure that helps - good luck.

What do you need?

If the answer is nothing, go on a trip and capture some awesome photos and get some awesome memories.

Buy what you think would fix any holes you see in the ability of your equipment. If you don't see any then buy a course to help fix holes in your ability! If there are neither then do as Phil says and spend the money on an amazing trip that allows you to indulge in your favourite type of photography!

I'm in the same situation, and have just done a deal with MPB Photgraphic, trading my 1D MkIII in against a mint, second-hand 5D Mk3. All my glass is L-Series (17-40L up to 300 2.8 L), so no probs there. The extra detail of a full-frame sensor and the 5D's superb autofocus meant I didn't have to deliberate much! ;)

If I'm lacking reach, I can always use my 1.4 converter. With the superb high ISO performance of the 5D Mk3, I can whack the ISO up to compensate for losing a couple of stops, and still maintain my desired shutter-speeds.

Like you, I also have a 7D, which is handy if I need extra reach.

I would go for the 5D Mk3. I've yet to hear a negative review of it, with most stating it's Canon's best camera yet, this side of the mighty 1DX!
