hi i have just really got into photography and i am in the process of setting up my own little studio. i have a fuji s1 pro, and have just treat myself to a new nikon d50, will both or any of these be okay for portrait photography?. thanks

Welcome to the forums

The D50 will make a nice portrait camera - have a look at the fixed prime lenses rather than zooms for portraits though. A Nikon 50mm f/1.8 won't break the bank and will serve you well

:agree: ... an excellent and reasonably priced Nikkor lens with flexibility enough for portrait work ... as well as loadsa other stuff ...

:p

hi guys and thanks for the info. i have noticed a lot of these 50mm f/1.8 are manual would that be ok on a nikon d50

Better going for the AF later version Nelly ...

The manual may well work OK but you will lose a lot of the functionality of your digital system ...

There is also an outside chance you just might damage something as the manual lenses were not made with the digital medium in mind ...

Kerso ... a TP forum member ... should be able to get you a great deal on this Nikkor lens ... just tell him Ven said so ... :D

Good luck ... :p

worth looking at the 85mm f1.8 too as it will throw the background out of focus just that bit more. it is a little dearer but not too expensive it you buy it from hongkong (onestop etc) or secondhand.
