New Flash kit needed £600ish

Have a look at lencarta...Gary from here will give you some direction :) but they do have a new updated website that you can pick and match to suit hope this will help..there is a few diff ones

Well, a 3 - head Lencarta ElitePro 300 kit with 2 softboxes and a barn door set is going to be £200 above your budget, but it will meet your needs perfectly - and it is genuinely S-fit compatible (some flash heads that are supposed to be S-fit aren't) so you'll have no problems with the compatibility of other light shapers later.

Are you sure that you really need 3 heads to start with? Buying the 3rd head later, or using a 'spare' hotshoe flash to put coloured light on the background will leave money in your back pocket...

I've used Elemental's M series for a around 3 years now. Only selling up as I'm moving more and more away from the studio now, but I would 100% recommend Elemental. Quality and customer service are fantastic.

Can't fault lencarta for product or service. Great value too.

lol.....a new angle ;)
There's nothing new about this I'm afraid. It's just a fact of life that not all of the various brands that appear to have that particular fitting actually do. Whether that's down to poor design, poor quality control or to something else isn't for me to say.

Maybe I'm wrong but although you have always said that Lencarta are s-fit, I don't recall you ever commenting about it so specifically, whilst implying that other brands (oh I wonder who....:whistling:) may not be proper s-fit.

Ironic how soon this is after this thread. ;)

Reality check:
There are businesses that do things properly and there are others that cut corners. That may or may not happen in your accountancy world, but it most certainly does happen in the world of manufacturing.
Some people obey the rules and some don't.
Some people have the capability, some don't.
Some people have high standards, others don't even know what standards are.

I wasn't referring to any particular brand, there are several lights out there sold under various names that don't have the fitting they claim to have and in fact although I did mention S-fit I was thinking about others too, and specifically accessories that are sold that are supposed to fit Elinchrom but which don't.

Whenever I happen to make a comment about quality standards in studio lighting you always seem to immediately jump to the defence of someone who I haven't attacked:) In a previous post, (from memory) you assumed that I was having a go at you for being naive and promoting the brand you bought even though that one name is the total sum of your own experience. In fact, I was thinking of a much larger and much more successful business in the US, which grew at a fantastic rate based almost entirely on forum recommendations from people who had never used any products other than theirs. If I wanted to be nasty, I would have said that anybody who had any real experience of lighting would compare those lights with others of different makes and would have advised people not to buy them - but I didn't say that, I just mentioned that the loudest voices are often from the people who know the least, and you decided that I was talking about you.

I answer questions about lighting on this forum, whenever I feel that I have something useful to say. If you don't like what I say, either ignore me or report me to the admins. Don't guess at my motives, none of us are very good at guessing the motives of others.

I must have been wrong then ;)

I'd not have known about that if you hadnt mentioned it and provided a link.

I've been following lighting stuff fairly closely over the last few months so I guess it was just lucky that I picked up on it; the coincidence that is, nothing more. ;)

Back on topic (apologies snapsnap), I can also recommend the Elemental kit. I've got both the Genesis and Trinity lights and they both produce excellent results so I don't need to buy other makes. Good specs also, come well packaged, everything works first time and the kit comes complete  I've reviewed both in my signature links.

I'm sure there's lots of good makes of kit so research it all here, check out independent reviews and go for what is best for you! :D

It does happen in the accountancy world. For example, Lencarta's accounts are late. :naughty: ;)

Yes, that would be a bit naughty, so I checked with Companies House. I'm not an accountant and don't understand the jargon, but from what I'm seeing the accounts are bang up to date. Am I missing something here?

Indeed they have now been submitted, but they were late, same for the previous year as well. Just some tongue in cheek for your accountancy comments ;) and is not meant to be any reflection on the products or service etc. Good to see some growth btw, the books aren't showing quite as much growth as the previous year but then the country is in a bit of a s__t state at the moment so it's certainly better than shrinking! lol

Despite what anyone says etc, I wish all businesses well. It isn't the Government who are going to sort this country out but the private sector and us consumers.

Bring on 2011 I say! :D

Just seen this Coreflash kit on ebay at £509, seems very good value.

Quoting Calumet again - they have really Nice pro double head kits with stands and umbrellas in a fitted case. They can be run from cable or battery flash units. Comes with all cables and instructions.I think it is a Gemini 400 unit. I use one with soft boxes and results are great. Together with flash transceiver units they are reliable and cuts down on cables.I think the price is around £ 650 .oo
