New Film Labs Popping up

To me at least there seems some new names popping up in the film lab and developing world.

Wonder if anyone has come across some of these and their experiences....

Take It Easy Lab
Film Processing(.co.uk)
Brighton Film Lab
The Film Safe


I've never heard of some of them up until a few weeks ago, I've always used FilmDev for my processing, but interested to hear of others experiences.
 
Interesting list... Just had a browse through some of them and was surprised to learn that the keyboard player of the Kaiser Chiefs is one of the folks at Take It Easy!

I think this is great for us, as it gives us choice, and keeps costs from spiralling. Could probably do with a few reviews though, so I think I'll sacrifice a couple of rolls to try one out. Nice to see E6 processing on some of the lists too.

Is he? I hadn’t clocked that. I’ve posted a couple of rolls to them today to see how they turn out - better be good or I predict a riot :LOL:
 
Brighton Film Lab I just checked, and found it's possibly the new name for Colourstream. It's a lab I have used for all my colour films, and a few black and whites that I wanted to offload. They did offer a 1 hour service which I've made use of in the past. They may still do, although obviously you have to go there in person. I've never used them mail order, as the only bus that passes my house also passes them. I haven't been there for over a year due to current restrictions, so things may have changed. I always found them friendly and helpful, and have been in their darkroom.

I checked their "about" page and a quick Google shows that to be the case. I guess Brighton Film Lab is better for SEO :) A bricks and mortar shop too! How novel.
 
There used to be another lab in Hove that was only a 20 minute walk from where I live, but they dropped film processing in favour of digital only. I don't know if they are still there. There is a third lab in Brighton that offers scanning and printing, but not as far as I can recall, film developing.
 
It's possible that more new labs will open. There's a lot of redundant processing machines around and probably enough trained maintenance people looking for work to keep them running. A renaissance for film processing would seem to be on the cards.

Not more than 100 metres from my front door never knew it existed. Only found it as I was getting some flowers from a nearby store for the wife. Not used it myself as all digital.

It’s to hope that the trained maintenance people possess and know how to correctly use a spirit level then, to ensure that all horizontals and verticals of the apparatus are flawless.
If 100% accuracy is essential with home processing equipment then accuracy beyond that has to be implemented by pros if they are demanding customers to pay! :p

Perhaps best if you make a personal assessment of any new lab outlets prior to any of us using their services., at least then we can be guaranteed perfection! .... just sayin’;)
 
Well I wish Asda would start up again...when not busy would dev and scan my colour film in 25mins (while you shop) and had M\Cs for self service to do digi photos as well as M\Cs for do very large prints, and not only that the girls would scan your slides as well for a cheap price. They sold out (erm well the space in asda?) to Photome and I was told by the girls (operators) that if the Fuji M\Cs (hired not owned) broke down that was it as they wouldn't pay for servicing...well they did break down. It all seems pointless Photome taking over the business with those conditions :rolleyes: and the area is now key cutting\shoe mending or whatever.
Why Asda or Photome couldn't make it pay is a puzzle, maybe the area (Slough) was a place people weren't interested in photography or poor advertising etc.

Apologies, I haven't been able to send anything into them as yet as the roll I had ear marked for them was black and white and didn't realise at the time they outsource black and white printing and only do a run on Friday's which wasn't suitable for what I needed.

I will be sending some colour over to them soon, but not for at least another couple of weeks
 
Had a couple of rolls back from them. Posted Monday, returned via Dropbox link on Wednesday.

Overall the scans back look very good. Not oversharpened as I have seen previously from elsewhere.
