New era Non-camera makers lenses (viltrox etc)

I have a 7Artisans 35mm f2 in Leica M Mount. For some time, it was the only M Mount lens I had and as a tide me over, it's been fine at the price on my M8.

Quite pleased with my lens. I don't suppose it's any better than a comparable Fujinon lens, but it's as good for a lot cheaper. Seems pretty accurate to me. Not too cool and not too warm.

I bought the Viltrox 14mm last week.
Only used it once so far but for £150 (for the Sony version - the Nikon version is £190) the image quality looks pretty good (y)

Public Information Notice

With the new v15.2 Lightroom Classic now has a built-in correction profile for the Viltrox AF 14mm FE (and also a few other new-ish Viltrox lenses)

I have the 13mm f1.4 and the 9mm f2.8, (both Viltrox). Very happy with both although the former is rather bulky and heavy.

That said, I agree with the earlier comment about it feeling strange not having an aperture ring on the 9mm.

What seems to be increasingly the case with Chinese lenses, they seem pretty much of a sameness. Is there any significant difference between Viltrox and TT Artisans, for instance?

The Nikon / Viltrox dispute has entered court proceedings and Sirui have removed all Z mount autofocus lenses from sale. it will be interesting to see the social outcome as Nikon aren't releasing nearly as many lenses as Sony and Canon in the Z mount thus allowing the 3rd parties to step in. Will this reduce the interest in Nikon and will that be worth any lost revenue from consumers going with 3rd party equivalents like the new 35mm f1.2 at 900 price point over the Nikon version at 2200 price point

I'm watching developments with interest - I recently bought both a 16mm f/1.8 and the 35mm f/1.2.
Have to say that I'm pleased with both lenses. The 35mm is particularly impressive.

It’s nice to buy a ‘cheaper’ product and be pleasantly surprised by the quality.

once you get over the floating motor

I'd rate the 16mm as 'good' but the 35mm has blown my socks off - it really is stupendously good.

Had other lenses in the past that were the same - I seem to particularly recall a Sigma macro lens.

I went from considering z8, and mostly held back by lack of sigma glass to now a complete hell no - and only really looking at sony

Unless you are shooting heavy action, looks like e-mount glass adapts quite well to z-mount.
So you can still buy and use sigma glass

Unfortunately can't do that with RF mount :(

Surprising no one really does a whole table of mounts explained like

It is probably just a matter of time until nikon plug that loophole
If you have no intention of buying overpriced nikon lenses like 35mm or 135mm - just stay out of it.

Good table minor corrections
Micro 4/3 isn't a manufacturer
Olympus and Panasonic are the manufactures who use the MFT/m43/micro 4/3 mount
Leica currently supports M and L mounts
sigma also makes L mount cameras

they are also horrendously big without needing to be in my opinion
I have just got the new sigma 35mm f1.2ii. no intentions of replacing it anytime soon and definitely not with a much larger version.

I am not sure they will plug that loophole, you never know i guess.

does the new 70-200 with a price point of about 3000 also fit that overpriced category. Of course those at Nikon will rave about it and how much IQ improvement there is - but whether its worth another 3000.

I think the price will come down quite quickly once we're past the early adopters.
Look what happened with the 24-70 f/2.8 S MkII.

Well first party glass is normally expensive... also depends on what you compare it to.

Equivalent canon RF is £3.2k and Sony is £2.4k

The obvious answer is to seek out good condition Nikon F mount lenses and use via an adaptor . Not the neatest of options but it does work or wait and see if Nikon bring out a high mp APSC camera body ,

They can go about it by litigating against adapters or messing with firmware, unless nikon is verbatim copying e mount protocols. Neither can be ruled out

It is on the higher end for now, and it not something i could justify spending on it personally. You may eventually get one for maybe sub 2k from hk sites

I would instead risk getting tamron 70-180. It is approved and reasonably decent; probably better than similar anything ever made in dslr mounts. Same likely applies on sony, but you can also choose sigma or expensive 50-150 f2 speciality which i am actually very tempted with

We were discussing on Sony thread earlier, samyang is developing a 20-50mm f2 which would pair nicely with 50-150mm f2.
Could make for a pretty impressive 2 lens set up
It would be in the unlikely event they manage to optimise both for stellar optical performance and price. It is a very tough one to do, and do well.

I would just go for 20/24 and 35mm primes and 16-35 gm2. There is also a good but also very expensive 28-70mm f2. It just depends what you use more.
50-150 should pretty much handle all individual portraits. 35mm and wider is for context shots or interiors work
