Had a really fun meeting with the money-people today with regard to the new equipment purchase for the three Armed Forces Phot sections.

Good news is we get to carry on with the D2x (not now buying D2H as the half-frame option effectively does the same job).
Not now buying 80-400 VR lenses coz they're crap, despite Nikon trying to push them on us.

Here's the preferred lineup:

Nikkor AF 14mm f/2.8

or...

Nikkor AFS DX 12-24 f/4G

Nikkor AFS 17-35 f/2.8 (already issued)

Nikkor AFS 28-70 f/2.8

Nikkor AFS VR 70-200 f/2.8G

Nikkor AF-S VR 300 f/2.8

Nikkor AF-S 600 f/4

As well as the SB800, a Flashtrax 80Gb image tank, 4GB cards - 4 per camera, satellite transmission kit (BGAN) and the new HP (not Dell) laptops...
Should be done by March '06.

Some wonderful toys there but it would take more than that to get me anywhere near Iraq :)

Wait til you see the piccies - it's all worth it.

Sounds like a nice little kit list. Looking forward to the pics, mate.

Would it be fair to say you are lucky enough to have a job which is your main hobby ? If yes, then you lucky lucky lucky :censored: ;) ....although I too wouldn't go anywhere near the countries you visit :hand:

But, but, it's Nikon :grinshake

Do you get to take that lot home with you, Arkady? :hissyfit: Not fair :sulk:

regards

Some stunning images there Rob, bring out the seriousness of the place.

some of his shots have been published!

thats a great line up of gear, nice...

This trip I intend to document the wierdness of the International Zone in Baghdad as well as doing 'proper' work.
It's like Carnivale meets the Simpsons and Futurama all rolled into one.

:laugh2: Looking forward to the shots.

We have Burger King at the PX Compound, Maccy-D at BIAP (Baghdad Airport) and a host of other fast-food reatilers. I'll be up at the big compound today working with the Royal Irish, so I'll do some holiday snaps.

Rob, did you get to play with the Nikkor AFS DX 12-24 f/4G ? Just wondering what you thought of it.

Not yet, but it's on the shopping list - that or the 14mm Nikkor. They haven'y got back to me with the final list yet.
I'll keep everyone posted as soon as we get anything new through the doors.

Hey with you carrying that 600mm about, be sure to put a union jack on top of your lid, lol

I wonder if they'll let me back in for an S type with you guys. Not that I would ever WANT to be in a conflict area, but I do miss it sometimes.
