Yes
I picked up my new D90 tonight and have had a quick play with it....i'm simply blown away with it already.....everything about it smacks of quality from the speed, the PQ, the display, menu's, build quality and i've only scratched the surface with a brief play....if anyone out there is considering it i can't recommend it highly enough. I'll post some results in time but for now safe to say i'm incredibly pleased  I've been a long time D40 owner and this really does feel like a step up to a higher level altogther.

Can't wait to get out at the weekend and have some proper fun..

That manual is going to take some digesting though !

I like to listen to Ken's opinion in these matters....

"The Nikon D90 is a fantastic camera. It's Nikon's newest and best DX format DSLR. I prefer it to the old D300, which costs almost twice as much. "

http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d90.htm

Mikey, I'm actually torn between the d90 and the d300. I'm still not sure, but the price difference is making me lean towards the d90 at the moment!

Unless you actually need the weatherproofing and extra buttons etc then the D90, being the newer model, is probably the better buy..

Enjoy your new toy !

I migrated from a D40 to a D90 myself & so far can't fault the D90.

I only refer to Ken with regards to the initial settings for the camera...he says very similar things about any new camera that has been launched. ;)

What type of photography do you prefer?

I disagree - he stood by the D40 even when the D40X and D60 came along......Didn't go mental on the D300 but does like the D90....he's fairly consistent for me.

Plus it has video.

I don't care what anyone says, that..
is..
AWESOME.

Yeah - that's a whole new ball game as well....even the live view is a bit of a new feature to me that seems novel.

i want to upgrade my d40 but cant decided between d80/d90 , basically anythign that auto focus's lol

Pleased you like it, I went from a D50 to a D90 late last year and was blown away by certain things (the LCD, the extra - amazingly useful - buttons)

Many things I couldn't live without now...such as the backlit top LCD.

I certainly don't regret not saving the extra for the D300, it's a cracking camera I'm sure, but even though I shoot motorsport I'm more than happy with the D90 (I have a StormJacket for rainy days)

Anyone care to highlight the key differences between the D90 and D300 for me?

I think this might be my next purchase,I have a D50 and a D3 but the 50 lasts alot compared to the d3 but the d3 is heavy and not really very walk about able

It's more the AF system that I'm wanting, I plan on doing a lot more motorsport this year so a fast AF system will be a benefit. I think the d90 has the same one as a d200??

im also torn between d300 and d90, the 300 seems much nicer in the hand, has quick access to so many controls, i never use scene settings and im not fussed about video. Plus the 300 will meter my manual lenses.

I went from D40, to D50, and recently to D90. Its an amazing camera, which will certainly last me a while. Love the video mode too, very useful addition.

Ive got the d200, and am looking to change it. Would you recommend the d90over the d300? I shoot alot of motorsport so need a fast autofocusing body with good frames per second.

Me too, the D90 was a very nice advanced step up from the D40.

I love the D90, the camera is outstanding and the results are amazing. :) I love all the extra buttons and lcd at the top too!

In all honesty for motorsport I would rather have a D300. The autofocus is quicker than that of the D90 and shoots more frames per second.

But would you say the d90 was better that the d200? As I am happy with the d200, and the d90's price is so much better. 4.5 frames per second on the d90, 5 on the d200 and 6-8 on the d300. The d300 has no modes other than manual, I do shoot in shutter priority from time to time.

I got my D90 in deccember and i love it.. (still reading the manual) but it is a great bit of kit i think but then i know nothing

:nono:I'm afraid your wrong mate, it does have A S and P modes the same as any other Nikon. If I remember correctly, (I've used one once) you press a mode button on the top right and spin the rear dial.

I do apologise, I have never used one, just couldnt see the modes on the top, so assumed they were not there. Sorry

It is great - maybe we needa D90 sticky to highlight features / tricks etc on the camera.

If you are using it for motorsport and can afford the D300 then buy it as the autofocus performance is better and with the grip you can get 8fps or 6fps without it.

Thats the trouble, the price. They are so expensive, bthats why im looking at the d90, but if it is like downgrading I will wait.

Perfectly usable for motorsport though, I work my camera pretty hard at the circuit and haven't discovered any issues. AF is plenty quick enough even though I've moved to a slightly slower focusing lens (Sigma 120-300 2.8 instead of my old Nikon 80-200 2.8 AF-S), and how often do people really use the full FPS capabilities? I've been shooting motorsport for a couple of years and can count on one hand how many times I've held down the shutter release (just for crashes), a bit of practice almost removes the need to 'fire and hope'. I'm stood around photographers every week from April to October and there is only a very select small breed of motorsport tog that is firing multiple shots with any frequency.

Obviously the D300 has the edge on performance and I'm not disputing that, but at the price, the D90 is more than capable (saying that, as was my D50 before it)

i cant justify it on the back of fps or auto focus but im still gonna go for a d300

The D90 is golden and i dont think you can fault it, in the right hands its a weapon....
