Ok postie knocked on my Door this morning at 07-20 with my new D700 plus 50mm f1.4 and a guide book, my 24-70 will not be here until tomorrow (please please plese).

On taking the body out of the box the first thing that struck me was that it looked and feels like my D300s, there is a tiny size difference when sat next to each other.
Menus seem much the same with obviously a few extra tweaks added and a few missing like video (booo full frame video would be so cool)

So for me having already been use to a Nikon lay out since i moved from Canon in 2009 it is not so much of a culture shock as it was then.
To be honest i still look at all these tweaks in the menus and wonder what is best for my shooting styles, later i will start building up my shooting banks and save them all, then do a complete reset and set up some more with different settings and try and work out over time which suit me best and start to tweak each one individually on a few test shots.

The 50 f1.4 has found itself being pointed toward many objects around the house as just typically the weather here in sunny Devon is dreadful.
The dog has run upstairs to hide as he knows what will happen once a camera is in my hands and before me sits 416 pages of a guide book to the D700 which will give me endless hours of confusion over the next 4 weeks by which time i will have given up and just stuck to what i think is right.

Ok off to play some more and after checking my emails to see if i have a tracking number for the 24-70 so at least i know it will be here tomorrow.

You lucky b*gg*r !! D700 very high on my wish list. Enjoy.

Will it ever stop raining, praying i can get out with the camera tomorrow.

They are water resistant..........;)

Enjoy,cracking piece of kit.....

what both are, there not on the list of weather sealed lenses i got from nikon,
i got told my 18-200mm was because it has the ruber at the bottom on the mount so i asked nikon and the told me it was not and give me a list of the lenses that were ie, 70-200mm,i will have to find it out, but if any one else knows of other lenses please share.:D

The OP mentioned a 24-70 f/2.8 and a 50 f/1.4 - both of which are weather-sealed.

I love my D700 - I spent ages walking up and down the high street before finally deciding to go in the camera store and max out my credit card. Am very pleased I did; no longer am I worrying about high iso settings when photographing live stage shows.

Enjoy using this piece of kit

lucky thing! :)

have fun with it..... and I know just what you mean about the dog!!!!

i know what he mentioned, and where does it state where nikon lenses are weather sealed, pentax ones do.

I can confirm these are weather sealed

AF-S DX 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED
AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8G ED
AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G ED
AF-S 400mm f/2.8G ED VR
AF-S 500mm f/4G ED VR
AF-S 600mm f/4G ED VR

The only way i know to find out for sure is to phone Nikon customer services.
It is not something i tend to worry about as i never sit in the rain taking photos.

07-40, postie came with my 24-70, the sun was shining the tide was in and i was confident of a few shots today by the seafront, by the time i got organised it had clouded in and here i am with a gorgeous new lens which i am bursting to try, i dont think i can take another day shooting silly things around the house or the poor Dog.

just checked BBC weather and the sun might be back after lunch, fingers crossed.

I guess this is what i wanted to see, full frame at 24mm, as i dont do buildings or interiors often 24mm will be wide enough for me. oh yes the sun was half out.

"Feels like my D300`s". How many have you freakin` got

Just the 2 Nikons and a canon EOS 3 film.
I think the D300s will get less use than i thought so it might make way for a tele lens for the D700 later this year if i find it just sits in my bag.
