I'm doing somethinmg similar - my 'base' spec (ordered as separate parts):

Ryzen 7 3800X
MSI Tomahawk X570
Crucial 32GB 3200 C16 RAM
2TB WD black NVME
6TB WB blue storage drive
GTX1030 2GB (this may yet get swapped out for something 'better')
Fractal case
Re-use a 550W modular PSU

I picked the X570 based MOBO because it has a fast data rate for the right spec NVME M2 SSD, for it being somewhat over-rated to allow overclocking (so longer life if not abused?) and all-round upgradability. 32GB RAM because layers can use up a lot of memory.

Do you know if Topaz uses GPU or CPU for processing? If CPU then a 3800X or 5600X isn't much more for a bit more speed.

16Gb of RAM is barely enough especially if any 4K video is involved

OK, so you both recommend 32gb ram, also need to look at upgrading mob and cpu.

Thanks guys

I would definitely go for 32gb with 2x16gb sticks in a new build.

Mobo wise a 550 or 570 chipset will give faster storage options and better expansion potential. However if you will never upgrade or modify your system then that's not such a big deal.

I was going so suggest looking at the Ryzen 5000 series processors, as even on single core they are about 20% faster than the equivalent 3000 series processors.

After ordering the 3800x I noticed that the 5600 has better single core. I might return it unopened and order the 5600
