Merry Christmas

I was previously registered as Crazyhorse (Lisa) but have lost my login details so it's me under a new name. :)

I bought a new HP desktop today. I installed the cs4 extended upgrade all fine, but it asked me for the serial number of the cs3 copy I had and I can't find that information out as it was in an email on my old computer which is dead).

Anyway, it's letting me access a 'trial copy'.

The problem I am having is I have downloaded 5.6 camera raw update but I still can't view the raw files. It keeps saying it's the wrong format or something. It's not a prob with the cf card as the images downloaded fine onto my laptop. I am using windows 8 on the desktop.

The computers I use are 40D and 7D.

Can anyone help in layman terms please. :)

Have you actually installed the 5.6 update? You've not just downloaded it have you?

WHen you downloaded it, you would have received a .zip file called "Adobe Camera Raw-xx-blah blah.zip"... or something like that. It would have gone to C:\users\your name\downloads... or C:\users\your name\desktop.

To open it, right click on it, and select open with "Windows Explorer"... or you'll also probably be able to just double click it, and you'll see the contents.. usually a folder called Meta Info, a folder called Payloads, and a program called AdobePatch Installer.exe. Double click the adobepatchinstaller.exe file, and it should install.

Quit Lightroom or Photoshop before you start.
 
7d files won't open in cs3 nor will raw 5.6 work.

As mentioned you should be able to get your cs3 serial from your adobe account.
 
5.6 does support the 7d, but there is a 5.7 version, it sounds like it hasn't installed properly. If you open camera raw what does it say (version wise) at the top?
Can you just clarify that you are using CS4 not cs3, 5.6 wont work in cs3

Sorry for not replying sooner.

Swansea Male, I downloaded the version you mentioned. The problem was I didn't actually activate it. It's all sorted now thanks. I also managed to find the serial number for CS3 and was able to load CS4 extended which is what I am using.

I have another query and will post in a new thread.:lol:

When I switch it on, it comes on but that's it, you can't move a mouse or anything, I've tried different keyboards and mice etc.

I am going to take it somewhere to get it fixed as stupidly, I didn't put ALL my images onto one of the three external hard drives which sit next to my computer and there's some images on it which I need. :nono::nono::nono:

Whereabouts are you based? I am sure someone local on here would help with recovery?
