New Car...What to get?

Dave are you at the Plains? If you can prove your 3rd party on any other vehicle insurance you're welcome to drive me around in it!

Cheers for the offer Charlie. I have got 3rd party cover on other cars in my policy but going to test drive a few this weekend so hopefully that'll help me make my mind up. Dave Johnson also made the same very kind offer...

i would go for a ibiza cupra tdi 50mpg and 0-60 which would scare some petrol hot hatches LOL

Think I'm decided on the Fabia now... I really like the look of them and think they've got a great spec too!

yeah they're not bad, but i couldn't do the badge LOL

seat has a more fresh sporty look too

in my mind people who dismiss skoda's just show their ignorance to a brand that has been turned from one of the worst to one of the best

True. When I got the Octy I got a load of stick off a workmate with a Mk4 Golf GTi. He went quite very quiet when I pointed out that I had the same chassis, engine etc.. as his car, but paid about £6k less for it :D

I've not found a part on the car with "Skoda" printed on on it yet, apart from the badges. Everything else has VW or Audi all over it.

i don't dislike the car, but if it was my own hard earn money i just wouldn't buy one myself, mainly due to resale value on limited people like myself not looking etc.

also a bit dated and boxy i feel, IMO, but that's just my opinion
and interior plastics aren't as nice, but as a package it's a good car.

£10k i would buy something else for sure

i would prefer the sporty ibiza cupra, but for resale in mind, Audi would be stronger and could find something circa 06-07

Speaking as an Imp and Porsche owner, Skodas were great, until they moved the engine to the front :D. Look at all those class wins on the RAC rally and Stig Blomquist got 3rd overall in a Skoda one year.

(The Fabia VRS is still a very good car though, despite being front engined).

no denying they are a good buy, but with a £10k budget on a used car, there are wider options

generally speaking interior fit and finish and quality difference can be seen between the VAG family though

The resale value on Skoda's is great, actually...!

I was quite suprised but they have one of the best (lowest) depreciation values out there as they're reasonably priced in the first place. vRS's still fetch £5-6k after 5 years of motoring and 60-80k of miles - that's around 50% depreciation which is unheard of. I think the main reason for this is no one (apart from VAG) make a good diesel hot hatch...

The problem I have with the Seat Ibiza and Leon are the chavs you see driving them nowadays...shame but they're heading in to Vauxhall MkIII Astra and Ford Escort MkIV territory.

Oh yeah, I'm not spending £10k, it was simply looking at cars up to £10k as you'll easily barter £1k off a good dealer at the end of the month!
;)
