I saw this article today on http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Canon-News/

I wonder if they'll come to the UK.

A couple of new Canon rebates might be of interest to you:

First is the Canon PIXMA® MP970, Pro9000, or Pro9500 Photo Printer and Canon EOS 1D Mark III, EOS 1Ds Mark III, EOS 40D, or EOS 5D Digital SLR Camera $200 Mail-In Rebate.

And second is the Canon PIXMA® MP970 Photo Printer $100 Mail-In Rebate.

As with the 5D + printer rebates in the fall, these appear to be stackable rebates - the printer-only rebate requests the secondary UPC code. Basically, you get paid to buy the printer - which enterprising buyers can then sell on EBay for somewhere in the $200 range.

These rebates are not showing on Canon USA's web site. Use the Canon Digital SLR Reviews page to select your camera and navigate to your favorite retailer's web site to get the details - the rebate forms are specific to the larger retailers.

hmmm
wonder how quickly that'll get to this side of the pond
wonder if it'll map $1=£1, £200 rebate would be nice!!

Mmm, if they bring a rebate over for the 1Ds Mk III then I might be tempted to stop coveting and start buying ;)

I think this is going to be an interesting year. I spoke to two pros this week that have been told that Canon will have either a 1D Mk IV or a 1D Mk III N out before the Olympics with healthy trade in options for 1D Mk III owners. If true, that is going to have an impact on prices.

They also told me about the frankly stunning deals Nikon are offering to pros to trade in their Canon kit. A packaged deal and like for like swap on lenses. That should see Canon coming out fighting. Think of the PR is the Olympics sees a line of pros WITHOUT the classic white lenses.

 Nikon as the new source for cheap 2nd hand Canon gear?

sorry, trade in canon gear to Nikon and get a nikon like-for-like...um, how? more to the point, WHY?!

:D I said the same at the time, would be interesting to know what they do with the stuff traded in.

I was told it is deals offered to the big photo / news agencies.

They said there is a general lack of faith in the 1D Mk III by the pros. They can't risk the chance that the AF may miss that crucial photo. Most were keeping with the 1D Mk II N (the 1D Mk IIIs are being left in the office) or swapping over the to Nikon D3.

It is a dog eat dog world. Canon had a flawed product, reputations are on the line and Nikon are wooing people. For the 'pro tog, the camera is merely a tool. Would be interesting to know where all this kit would go, either sold on via back door, or simply destroyed on the basis that one less Canon body in the world would be good news for Nikon.
