I know it may be a good lens but this is double the price of the old  version which is by some, considered to be the best lens anyway.

Does it guarantee that your shots are perfect?

I hope this is not setting a new precedence of a pricing structure to just double the cost everything new that comes out.

It does the PP work for you aswell, or it should do at that price :(
Bear in mind that it hasn't been released yet so prices will maybe change when it is.
But yes it's completely insane imo

It should also have inbuilt filters and auto lighting optimisers at that price.

No need to get your knickers in a twist.....

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM ... SRP £2239.99 (link), street price about £1400-£1500 (link).

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II USM ... SRP £2799.99 which is exactly 25% more than the MkI version. So we should expect the street price to come down to around £1750-£1800.

Retailers basically make ALL their profit on lenses in the first 3-6 months after they're released. They charge a stupidity tax on the people who simply MUST have it NOW. (That's why I don't buy lenses when they're brand new out.) After 3-6 months, all the must-haves have got it, and normal competition kicks in to the point where - at the competitive end of the market, at least - the retailers' margins are wafer thin.
