new camera

going to upgrade from eos 350d dont know wether to go for new 450d or s/h 40d or better. any suggestions

i went from a 300D to a 20D and found the handling, particularly having the additional wheel on the back of the camera, to be a massive step up. The 40D sounds like a good choice to me and a substantial step up in functionality.

Just for the record, I'm not trying to imply that the 450 is a bad camera in any way.

What do you feel is holding you back with your 350D?

I am also looking to add to my 350D in the new year but I will be keeping the 350 as a spare,I have had a look at the 450 and 2 major problems have come to mind.
1) As withn the 350 it is to small on its own and only works for me with the grip and unlike the 400 it takes a different grip to the 350.
2) SD cards not CF so there is the expense of about 4-6 gig of memory cards to be factored in

Take that all into account and their is little difference in price between the 450 and the 40,however I am also looking at the option of a used 30D because I have found from the 350 that 8meg is fine for my useage

xxD wins over xxxD any day, wish I'd bought a 30D instead of my 400 when I started. For the little extra in price, it just works and handles so much better.

Yeah, go for a 40d as personally, i dont think a 350-450 is really the right step forward, more of a side step and shuffle forward

thanks for all the input just outgrown the 350 sold some elec heli. gear so im investing in a new camera still keeping my eos 650 and RT though. looks like a 40d or me. Kevin

If you're fond of lots of noise as low as 400 ISO go with the 450D, Captain penguines allready mentioned the tiny aspect. :thumbsdown:

I would definitely recommend the 40D (or even the 30D) over a xxxD series camera.

The controls are much better, burst speed is higher and IMO they are just more pleasant cameras with which to shoot.

By the way if you opt for the 40D, it includes live-view (no great plus for me since I never use it) and sensor cleaning which I like.

The only thing that I liked better about my xxxD (series) camera was infra red remote wireless shutter tripping. However, there are Chinese wireless trippers on eBay for the xxD series camera which work very well and are very reasonable in price.

I upgraded from my 400D to a 40D earlier this year and have to say that it is a different world. Absolutely go to the 40D if you can afford it.
