So I have my 60th arriving in July which gives me an excuse for a new camera, my current Z6ii is fine for stationary and slow moving things but fails miserably on say the dog running towards me so time for a new one, Im stuck on the following

Z6iii - a few sites saying focus isn't the best and I would like more mega pixels
R6ii -The cheapest
R5ii - the best autofocus and most expensive
Z8 - 2 recalls I believe but I can keep my lens and other bits, still some saying iffy focus now and then but best on price for what you get
A7R5 - same price as Z8 but small in the hands and terrible rolling shutter but my S24 takes nice videos in 4k any way

My grandkids are are all running around now so I really want a auto focus that will do the best, past trusting the review sites as they all have different thoughts.

So any thoughts from those that use these beasts.

Thanks
Mark

depends on the lenses that you have - your posting above indicates 3 different manufacturers - Nikon - Canon - and Sony

looks like from your "Z8" you have Nikon "F" mount lenses ....... so if that is correct you will just need a FTZ adapter if you choose the Z8

a Z8 is now very good value for money, as are certain high quality Nikon "F" mount lenses, i.e. the Nikon 105mm f1,4E VR........ great for shots of the "grandkids"

Hi, down to just the 50mm 1.8s at the moment, I'm not fussed in changing brands, whichever does the job

It all depends on how much you want to spend. I have a z6ii and a D750 and was looking to move from the d750 to another body, either z6iii or z5ii, but by moving to one of the new bodies it would also mean upgrading Capture One which would be an additional £300 onto top of the price of the body.

I opted to get another z6ii for now, hopefully in a few years the price of a z8 may come down and may upgrade to it if am still shooting.

As you have Nikon lenses I would suggest the z6iii or z8, but if your budget is unlimited you have the option to try out the Canon and Sony offerings.

Edit: Sorry just seen your post on the lens.

Focus seems pretty high on your list of needs but another thing you could factor in the the mp count you're happy with. The list of possibilities is all over the place. I think it is something worth thinking about if only for storage space and processing time, 24mp seems to be a bit of overkill for me.

Congratulations for your upcoming birthday and I hope you have a lot of fun with your new kit.

If you are used to Nikon I think I'd suggest you stay with the Z5ii, Z6iii, or Z8. Whilst the Canon might have slightly better AF, the lenses I find aren't as good. But that's just my findings from trying them. You can borrow a canon using the trythekit option to see how it suits you.

If you are considering Sony, then the A7iv is a great camera, 'only' 33M which is less than the A7Rv, and missing a few of the latest bells and whistles of the A7Rv - but it's more than £1k cheaper meaning more money towards lenses and the high end lenses you need to get the best from these cameras are not cheap

Hi All, thanks for the replies, I'm thinking of the Z8 as I know Nikon menus and like the ergonomics so I need rid of my Z6ii first.

Deals are available for the Z8 - £2999 - same as Black Friday. Excellent camera,

Z8 looks like the way to go if you want the AF tracking and MP and familiar with Nikon menus.

I think the Z8 or any of the other stacked sensor cameras would be a good choice. I had the A9mk1 and now the Z8 both of which I've been extremely pleased with for shooting moving subjects, the AF is great and the blackout free shooting makes it easier to track the subject. It's also great to be able to rattle off as many shots as you want without disturbing anyone around you.
