Right so i have a d40 and i love it too bits it must be one of the best starter cameras out there. I have had it for about a year now and im looking to upgrade soon. One feature that i would like is Hd video capture and i have been looking around and it seems that canon is best for video. What would be a good step up from a d40? price range €300 -450 ?

Thanks,
Cameron

In that price range ,How about a nikon d3100

For video surely it has to be the GH2?

I'm not into video myself but from reading the reviews the GH2 seems to be the best for features, user control and output quality.

Have a look at the GH2 reviews over at Luminous Landscape. They rave about it. Blows the budget though...

500D is very limited with its video capabilities. 550D is a big upgrade in that respect.
GH2 may be better for video, but not so good for stills due to much smaller sensor size and mirorless design (back to point and shoot EVF and slow AF)

How about waiting a few months for the D5100 prices to come down? Should get a serious bump in image quality as well. That's my plan anyway :)

That's a very dubious and outdated view and makes me think that you haven't tried the cameras or read the reviews?

Anyway... out of budget.

This is the best information that this site is given to all camera users. With a view to keen about the camera that I have been purchasing the cannon D 700 camera and this camera has a unique featured like cyber snap and 20 optical zoom out.

That Cannon D700 is a fantastic camera, it can shoot SPAM out at 8 fps:lol:

You are 100% wrong, I'm afraid. I've tried them personally in an outdoors demo event. They are clearly better than PS but that's about it. Coming down from a dSLR every minute with one of these was awful. The controls and handling were pretty dire. I think you should also try them out properly.
