New camera help

Hi im fairly new too photography and im looking too buy a new camera for xmas.I will have around £400 too spend and im not sure what camera too get ive been looking at the nikon d5100 which looks great is there any others that any of you would recommend and do any of you own the d5100 ? Thanks in advance

My friend spend a long time thinking before getting one over the D5200.
He decided the 16MP was more than enough for his use and the price difference was put into a better lens.

He bought my "old" Nikkor 16-85, and now - months later - still can't finished praising just how much better it is than the kit lens...

And it looks really great on the D5100!
