hi, i have been doing photography as a hobby for the last few years, using beginner dslr's and an olympus om10, ive recently been thinking about getting a new camera.

as its just a hobby i cant afford to spend a fortune, but i have been looking on ebay and some other shops around my area.

i have been trying to decide whether it would be better to buy a slighty more expensive dslr or to buy an older more professional dslr, such as a fuji s2 or a nikon 1dh

i no the technology isnt as good in these older cameras and their pixels are lower but i dont often blow pictures up, and even then no bigger than a3, but would the resolution in these cameras be better resolution?

buying an older camera would also mean i had more money for lenses

i have also been thinking about buying a medium format, which is something i had a go with at college, i have been looking at mamiya rz67 or a cheap bronica, i would be spending as little as possible on a medium format, but i would like to have one to muck about with take some portraits and things, if anyone could give me some more info on medium formats that would be helpful, or some beginner medium formats?

sorry for the long post, but photography is an expensive thing to get wrong

I started off with an Olympus OM10 too!

I bought it new in 1982 and it still works today!

However, the immediacy of Digital is very powerful and alluring. I bought an Olympus C770 P & S camera and whilst very happy with it; I Knew that I still preferred an SLR type camera and fell for the Nikon D70!

It's a great camera with plenty of scope for owners to experiment and can produce some stunning images. OK, the viewfinder and the LCD are bit on the small side compared to newer models; but, in my opinion could be a great second-hand buy!

I've kept that camera too, as my back-up body, it's a decent size but nice and light to carry around.

So, my suggestion would be a lightly used D70 or D80 perhaps. There must be plenty around now after many people have upgraded to the D90 and D300!

nikon 1dh??

sorry meant nikon d1h or d1x whichever. i really have no idea if these are worth buying, i just assumed that buying an old pro slr camera must be around as good as a current mid level camera, but much cheaper?

The D1X is still a very capable camera and especially good for fast action
