I am going to add another camera to my D610 and although its a great camera that has served me well I am starting to see its limitations with focus in low light

I am almost set on the D750 as it has brilliant reviews and has excellent low light focusing but I also read good things about the D810

I personally think the 36MP is a bit over the top for weddings BUT I see the 810 gets a brilliant mark on Dxomark (link below)

http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Comp...us-Nikon-D810-versus-Nikon-D610___975_963_915

Curiously the D750 gets a lower overall mark than the D610

  1. Nikon D750 - 93
  2. Nikon D810 - 97
  3. Nikon D610 - 94

So using for weddings and just wanted some feedback and suggestions on which camera would serve me better between the D810 or D750 - or another Nikon I have forgot about :)

Unless you'll be throwing (literally) the camera around, I reckon the D750 will do the job just fine. Not sure if they use the same battery.

Thank you both (y) and that does confirm what I was thinking about the D750 - I think the D750 and the D610 share the same battery but I will need to check.

The d800(and I guess the d810), d750, d600/610, d7000/7100/7200 all use the same en-el15 battery. I have a couple of spare batteries Ive had for years that have been used on d7xx series, d800 and d750 cameras without a problem. It's the one thing nikon have kept the same across a variety of models rather than make different batteries for each model.

They do share the same battery I had the D610 and D750 as backup and luckily they have same batteries

That's good to know and something less to buy as I already have a few batteries for the D610

Indeed. I'd take the D810 as the layout is easier, and the extra size gives you more scope for cropping.

Yes that is one aspect I do like, I can crop with 23MP but 36 would give a lot more scope

The file size of Nikon D810 might be a concern on your wedding works?

Generally the D750 seems to have been preferred by wedding togs since its release, its outstanding in low light with AF which is a shade better than the D810 and awesome high iso capability as well... I'd save my money and go for the D750, its basically a D610 with the low light focus limitations resolved!

John - it really does depend on what type of images you shoot the most ...... even if you only display them on your computer screen

and the scores I would think depend on the shooting situation

Get yourself a pair of D750's and keep the D610 as backup. Job done.

Have you looked at the Sony A7R system John ?

That would mean starting again with lenses and learning a new system

Yeah I did think about the 810 file size I remember when I went from D90 to D600 and I had to change memory cards as the old ones weren't fast enough to process the larger files

D810 is a better camera there is no doubt about that. D750 is a very good camera and is cheaper and will do the job fine.

I'm not trying to start an argument just genuinely interested as I could buy either camera so want to choose wisely

Nor me but when the D750 will more than meet your needs for weddings, why pay more for an alternative ? Unless of course you prefer a slightly larger body and extra mp clout.

Have to agree with this, I've used both the D750 and D810 and aside from the extra MP and maybe a little but better build I don't see a lot that would be worth the extra £1000 almost for a D810 for weddings, to be the D810 is more aimed at studio or landscape shooters like the D800 was before.

The a7r is not a wedding camera. Loudest shutter ever made, single card, poor battery life, no fast native zooms, slow af, no weather sealing, average at best build quality, poor buffer, poor fps, could go on. It's got a decent sensor but imo it's no wedding camera. Studio and landscape... maybe.

Well that swiftly sorted that

Oh come on, don't beat around the bush, tell us what you really think !

Sounds like a d750 would be the order of the day.

OK so it seems my initial idea to get the 750 was right BUT is there any rumours of Nikon releasing anything this coming year. It would be typical to buy the 750 and then a 760 or something pops up

There hasn't been anything so far the focus seems to be on a D5 and some think a possible upgrade to the D810 to closer compete with the 42 & 50mp bodies from Sony and Canon but there's been zero talk of a new D750... If it ain't broke why fix it!

Generally waiting for a rumour to materialise is a bad plan.
There are still people out there waiting for a D300 & D700 replacement !

Those Dxo marks are more or less meaningless in real world term. I would say that the D750 is the best wedding camera ever made. Unparalleled low light AF and noise performance, incredible dynamic range and it's incredibly comfortable to use. The file size is huge for the D810. Do you really crop that much that often??

Oh, and it's far more than an upgraded D610.

Oh, and for what it's worth, I have mine setup so I can shoot in aperture priority but with one click can change the exposure compensation. I can also change ISO with my trigger finger, making it the easiest camera I've ever used.

No real point waiting for an upgrade to happen - the upgrade will get upgraded then the second upgrade etc.!!!

Those are facts not just opinion. No point in beating around the bush. There are better tools for the job.

I have heard Panamoz mentioned a few times are they good and do they have a section (traders section) on here - I looked but found nothing

Also if you buy from them (Grey import) I understand you get a 3 year warranty but at the moment I have a accident protection thing from Nikon that I pay monthly for - Could I still do that with grey imports

No idea but if it's a concern for you and you don't mind paying £200 more for a UK model, there's plenty of dealers have £150 off at present making the price about £1246.
